After researching DIY on YouTube, I was worried I would lose a body part or two, so I looked on Amazon for this Serpentine Belt Removal Tensioner Tool and I have to say Thank you Very Much EWK
Y'all saved me from losing my body parts. I would appreciate it if you would please note the following Using this tool should be done by 2 people Pulling back on the belt on my own released tension, then my daughter stuck the holding pin in. It wasn't hard and it was safe.

It was a huge hindrance not having it unless you had a long tire iron and anchoring point (I used a long socket extension between the bolt off the manifold and the subframe) for this (I know since I have been in a pinch before). The truth has been told to me. With this tool, you'll spend the same amount as you would on the tire iron, and you'll waste a lot of time fooling around with the tire iron and anchoring point. As compared to this one, I have seen these before and they were far less impressive. The company includes a tensioner spring pin that is a great addition! The crank pulley that I just bought does not come with the one time use pin. Luckily, this comes with a tensioner spring pin. I saved a lot of time, effort, and headaches with this purchase!.

From Mini, the same tool is outrageously expensive, and even from a third party like Pelican Parts, it costs more than There's no way I can know if this would hold up under constant use in a Mini repair shop, but it certainly looks like it would, and it will definitely work On the individual parts, the welds appear to be strong and well placed. It fits tightly on the 2006 Cooper S R53 with automatic transmission, but it does what it should be able to do. It's a definite must-have if you need to service or replace anything that requires you to remove the serpentine belt. The tool was supplied with a short pin, so I replaced it with a 9" long galvanized steel rod. For my application, the pin that comes with the kit is too short to actually be useful in such a small, tight space.
