I spent a long time looking for neon lights for my Ram 1500 and eventually settled on these. Here are my thoughts on the subject: Advantages: br>br> br>Total of six tubesbr>Multiple colors and patternsbr>Remote controlbr>LED long-lasting lightsbr>Vibrant colorsbr>br>Cons: br>The packaging was a complete disaster. In the original box, only the bulbs are included. There was no protection in the box because it was not shipped in a shipping box. br>In order to mount it in the truck rather than the engine compartment, the control box requires longer wires. br>The music setting does not seem to respond to my two 10" subs. br>The installation hardware isn't that great. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase. br>br> If anything changes, I'll let you know.
1. The control head can be placed anywhere INSIDE the passenger compartment, ideally within reach and view of the driver. br>2, To interact with music (must be close to thump), mounting the control head inside the sub box will provide power and wire routing convenience, but all operations will likely be controlled solely by the remote and will use 12v constant, not switched voltage. The power consumption of this device is very low. The supplied inline fuse has shaky connections, so I soldered them to ensure continuity. br>3, The control head has two MALE led connectors. On my 2000 Explorer, I first mounted a 36" on the front end, FEMALE towards the drivers side, fed female up and aft to shift cable grommet under brake booster and inside to controller, plugged in, then a 48" under the drivers side, FEMALE forward, run female up behind inner fender and followed other cable inside via shift cable grommet same as front one and plug into control head, Power on Use waterproof tape to secure the remaining connector. The 48" female plug forward plugging into the one already installed up front was then added, followed by the 24" female forward plugging into the 48". Each run's end plug is taped with waterproof tape. You now have equal lights on each of the two output leds from the control head, two branches with equal leds. The trick is to start with the controller and work your way up. While you're working, the controller can be turned on. The included mounting hardware isn't ideal; instead, some good cable ties and a few strategically placed drill n tap hangers will suffice. br>The plugs that connect the lights are delicate, so be cautious and double-check that they are fully engaged, or some lights will only work partially. br>This is an excellent system that performs admirably. If the control head could ANIMATE what the system is doing right now, including mode and color, with some super mini led indicators on the face of the controlling unit, it would be the best in the business. The colors are vibrant and the lighting is bright!.
(Fixed). After about two days, and only a few minutes on each day, the main unit failed. It does not light up the correct colors, and some colors remain on regardless of the color chosen. Regardless of the color used, the red and blue LEDs remain lit. br>I contacted LEDglow directly through their website and will provide an update once I hear back. I really hope they fix this because I spent a lot of time installing them and making sure everything was secure. EDIT 1: br>br> br>br>I explained my problem to them after they replied to my email. They advised me to inspect the wires and plugs for any damage. Everything was fine, especially since I ran wires through safe areas such as inside panels. They requested a video, and I provided it to them. They informed me that the footage had been covered after they had seen it. They'd also send a replacement base unit by mail. EDIT 2: br>br> br>br>I took my old damaged unit out of the box and placed it under an electronic safe power probe. It turned out that it was powering all of the LEDs. br>When the new unit arrived, I immediately installed it. So far, everything is running smoothly. Thank you to the LEDglow crew for looking after me. After some time with it, I'll come back and edit this to let everyone know how I got on. br>br>On my old base, I had also noticed that the white color selector on the control box appeared to be a very white tealish color. It's clearly white on the new control box, so it's possible that the original control box was defective.
Watching the video, it appeared to be bright after I installed it, but it's already installed underneath my truck and I'm not ripping it down because the lighting I bought 20 years ago and installed on my Bronco was a million times brighter and of higher quality, and you'd think after years LED lighting, especially for underneath trucks, would have gotten a clue and made their s*** a little stronger and bettered. I'm sure I'd break the law if I were on the road.
The 48" tubes do not fill or illuminate the entire distance between the wheel wells. My solution was to create the equivalent of a 6 ft tube for the sides by using two tubes per side, 48" and 24" end to end. It's all glistening now, from rim to rim! Solid on, single color driving is possible with the 7-color set. When you're standing still, you can get a lot of different effects. The last effect selected will be used when this kit is turned back on. To put it another way, if it was solid purple when you turned it off, it will remain solid purple when you turn it back on. When the light is switched off, the color fades. When the light is turned back on, the color fades. If you've ever done anything like this before, installation was fairly simple. The instruction sheet is adequate for the task at hand. You might need some assistance putting this on if you aren't a tinker. The quality appears to be good, but as one reviewer pointed out, you might want to upgrade or at least use multiple tie wraps to hold the tubes. It's a good thing there's some redundancy! I used the small ties in my installation, but I overdid it. The tubes are smaller in diameter and lighter in weight than the neon tubes they replaced. They also have a more secure fit than the neons. They're much more adaptable than neons (which was a major factor in my decision to buy them!). On the bumpy dirt and gravel driveway of a friend, I broke two sets of neons! I hope this information aids you in making your decision. They appeal to me.
