Questions & Answers

What is the extent of your protection?

One gallon is enough to cover a six foot pickup bed with two heavy (rolled on) coats!

Is Herculiner identical to Rhino liner? Is Herculiner superior to Line-X in terms of performance?

There are two types of media and two types of application processes. The Line-X finish is applied by a professional or a dealer. Herculiner, on the other hand, is a DIY product, and I believe it to be one of, if not THE best, DIY liner products available. Is there a better alternative to Line-X? Not likely. What gives you the most bang for your buck? Yes. Follow the instructions and keep a close eye on the preparation process. Herculiner will be of great service to you and will produce excellent results.

Is it possible to recoat a herculiner that has already been painted?

Yes, this is possible. My truck's bed was recently remodeled. After preparing it with lacquer thinner, I applied two new coats to the bed walls and two new coats to the bed itself. I use this stuff for everything, and I've discovered that painting over it as it tacks up gives you a nice glossy finish that lasts. The UV protection on the Herculiner isn't great, but painting over it as it tacks gives it the UV protection it needs. Did my sons go off the rails? 3 years later, the road bumper, rock rails, and the entire interior floor look brand new.

My vehicle is a 2001 Dodge Dakota Sport Ext, Cab w/ 6-speed manual transmission. a bed that is half a foot long The bed, sides, and tailgate are all things I'd like to work on. Would one gallon suffice? would that suffice?

No, I do not believe that is true. I built a 5'x8' trailer bed with no sides or tailgate and used every last drop of the 1 gallon can I purchased.

In my cargo trailer, I got great results, but there are a few tips that make it a lot easier! This was used to paint a 6x12 cargo trailer's floor, ramp, and 18" up the walls
4/5

Two kits was the perfect amount, with a little extra in each bucket. I'm pleased with the end result, but I have a few suggestions to help you avoid some of the problems I encountered: br>br>1) Throw away the foam rollers that came with the kit and order one or two instead.

I'm very pleased with the outcome
4/5

As I started scuffing up my truck's bed, I wondered why I was doing this to a brand new $40k truck just to save $400. I was already committed at that point, so I forged ahead, meticulously following the instructions and devoting a significant amount of time to preparation. I chemically cleaned the bed twice to make sure it was completely clean and free of any factory wax or oil. I carefully masked off all of the areas where I didn't want any liner to go. The application followed the instructions to a tee. I'm very pleased with the outcome. br>br>A few things to keep in mind for future users. I applied the coating to a full-size pickup truck with a 6. 5’ bed. A single can sufficed. I was concerned that I would run out of paint on coat two because the first coat took a little more than a quarter of a can, but it was exactly the right amount, with only about a quarter cup left over. It was fortunate that the second coat did not use as much as the first. One can would not be enough if you were going up and over the bed rails. br>br>The can recommends waiting 1 to 4 hours between coats. So I waited and waited, and by the time it got dark, it hadn't dried enough for me to get in and apply the second coat. I decided to do some research and discovered that humidity plays an important role in the curing of products. We are in the high desert right now and our humidity is around 18% right now . It took 24 hours for the second coat to cure to the point where I could get in there and apply it; it was still tacky, but only slightly; after applying the second coat, I soaked the concrete floor of my garage and closed it up to increase the humidity and speed up the cure. br>br>The included paintbrush is junk; instead, use a good brush and toss it when you're finished. The roller that came with it appeared to be effective. br>br>Stir frequently with an electric drill and a paint stirrer. Because the rubber particles separate quickly, pour only a small amount into your pan, as it will settle. br>br>I masked extremely well, but the liner still seeped through the tape in a few spots. With Acetone and paper towels, I was able to quickly clean those areas. br>br>If I run into any problems later, I will update this post. For the time being, I am pleased with the results and would repeat the process. This product could also be used on the deck of my trailer, which is something I'm considering.

Brush on of excellent quality; It is critical to plan ahead of time
4/5

The pictures impressed me enough that I decided to purchase this kit rather than go to a spray service. Note that you'll also need a drill attachment for mixing paint, acetone, and two good paint brushes (the included brush is terrible, and the compound builds up between the bristles). )br>br>By far the most time-consuming aspect is the preparation. If you don't have a sander, you're in for a long day. On a 4" orbital sander, I used the supplied hand pad and 100 grit sandpaper. It took 1 minute to finish this. 2 hours: 30 minutes for taping, 1 hour for painting. (x2)br>br>The compound is similar to what you'd find at a car dealership. And a drill should be used to thoroughly mix it. br>I was dealing with two problems: br>The first roller worked well, but the second broke down 10 minutes before the second coat was completed. As a result, I brushed the bed's remaining 1'x5'.
The 2nd is that I ran out before I could do touch ups. Now that I know this, I would recommend to add 10% of the specified thinner (read the direct ) A gallon was barely enough to finish my 6' bed, so I'd like to see an additional quart included in the kit for touch-ups and 8" beds.
