I replaced my old 2" coupler with this beefy one because trailers make me nervous, and I want to add strength wherever possible. This worked perfectly! I'd like to point out that springtime is a wonderful time of year. It's a bit of a waste of time to have a loaded feature. My spring was not strong enough to close on the ball, so I had to use a hammer to get it to close on the ball (yes, I removed pressure against it). Furthermore, I must open it with the claw end of the hammer. I'm hoping this will loosen up with time, but I can't say I blame them for wanting to stay together! br>br>UPDATE 5/10/2020: br>br> Over time, I've discovered that if I keep my hand lightly pulling on the unlatch lever while jacking up/down my trailer, the pressure on the lever will eventually release, allowing me to easily open and close the couple. I'm hoping there won't be any more hammers.
I found these on another site for a few dollars less, but it didn't have prime shipping. I snatched this one from the shelf and didn't look back. It arrived early and, with the exception of two holes, was a perfect fit. I needed them opened up to 5/8" (15mm) because they were drilled out to 1/2" (13mm). It's a well-made item with a pleasing appearance. On my previous trailer, I had one, and it lasted as long as the boat did. Hopefully, this one will do the same.
Controlling quality is a nightmare. I ordered one and it was rusted when it arrived. Galvanization was etched to look as if it had been stored in water. I came back and placed another order. The quality control is the same as before. Take a look at the photos to see how the welds connecting the steel tongue to the cast part were missing. The first is to the right, while the second is to the left. They appear to be solidly built. However, the appearance is poor for a brand new, high-priced hunk of steel.
I like that the ball can drop in without disengaging the latching mechanism, but the plating isn't the best, so I cut the bottom half of an old 2 5/16 ball that I had laying around into a little sphere and lock it in the receiver with a 5/16 long shank hardened steel master lock, and that's the best lock you'll get!.
According to the casting, the weight of the character is 15,000 pounds. Maybe not, but this is a high-definition device. Overall, the construction, coatings, and hardware were flawless; there was no rust, and the installation was simple. After removing the Titan drop coupler, the hole pattern did not line up, but two of the three drill holes were clean. For the gate, you'll almost certainly need to purchase a new coupler lock. diameter of the hole for the latch It's only a minor issue. I am extremely happy.
This is, without a doubt, one of the best ball latching systems on the market. It opens in a highly visible manner that will not be forgotten. It is by far the most expensive coupler, but it is made in the United States of America and is made of cast steel rather than stamped sheet.
Instead of 1/2", the mounting holes are 9/16" in diameter. In comparison to my original Fulton class 4 coupler, the holes are slightly lower and closer together. I realized this coupler is overkill for my 7,000 gvwr aluminum trailer, but I wanted to reinforce the tongue and use the third set of mounting holes, so I had to open the holes on my aluminum tongue trailer and shim between the coupler and tongue. Otherwise, there would be way too much slop and the holes on the tongue would become elongated over time. I also chose this one over the 2 inch ball version because it was less expensive and eligible for Prime. The welds were good, but the item arrived rusted, as reported by another reviewer. It's a heavier gauge steel channel, so I'm sure it'll last forever. Also, there were no country of origin markings.
Everything is rusted and corroded. The silver coating is not well done.
