This is not the case. It's not just one thing. I have several
A metal male connector is shown in the picture like the one on my original remote. There was a big difference between the one I received and the one I received. I did some research on this part number and it For the remote I use to operate my smittybilt winch, I paid $50.

In my winch, I instead had the other style pin connector, and when I tried to insert the control it wouldn't work the pins began to push into the connector, preventing it from working. Smittybilt told me these two styles were incompatible, and you'd never be able to get one of them to work after I found this one, thinking it was a more recent style, and had to do some searching to find a plug replacement to match. After using a solder gun and buying a new plug outlet, I had it working again after only 10 minutes. Clearly, they didn't know what they were doing. There isn't much complexity to the control of a winch. According to me, this type of plug is much more durable than a pin, and the connection feels more solid, so I don't have to worry about it breaking every time I In any case, I sent an email to Smittybilt support with a wiring diagram of how I made it work I haven't heard back as of yet. It might be helpful for them to know that the plan actually works.
The connection plug is of bayonet style. This is a good controller. Mile Marker E was broken and I needed a replacement Controller for 12000 that had become worn out over time. Although the controller still functioned, the silicone top had dried out and cracked, making it possible for water and mud to get inside The first company I contacted was Mile Marker, but they were no help since they had only used the bayonet style plug connector for Hence, I looked into other brands and found Westin, Smittybilt, and T-Mobile to be the best There are a variety of controllers from max, all with bayonet plugs. I liked the handles on the Westin and some Smittybilt models, but not the red rockers on the Mile Markers. Although it's not wired like my Mile Marker controller, the XCR controller has a nice rubberized toggle switch that I like. It does everything it's supposed to do, as laid out on the box. As you can see in the seller photo, you get the rubberized toggle instead of the red rocker switch. In addition to the front and rear bumpers, winch plate, roller fairlead, rocker guards, header bar, and bikini top, I also own a Smittybilt XCR winch. As with all of these items, I believe the controller will also be of high quality.
The product looks great, and I am sure it will do well. The packaging was excellent. Sadly, I had no time to make sure it worked with my winch before I returned it. I'm sharing it with my friends and it's working well. The quality of the product is superb!.
I needed to replace the remote control for an older model (2004) MileMarker E-fh-1 The winch has a 12000 horsepower electric motor. I have no issues using this with my winch as it had the correct connection.
Buying this to go with my Smittybilt xRC 12000 pound winch which has the 5 pin metal connector shown in the photo. It was a round plastic thing that does not even even come close to what was specified.
I cannot connect my XRC 9500 winch to it because it has the wrong connector. I have a 5 prong ring, whereas this one is nowhere near as good as mine!.
In comparison to my xrc winch, this controller used a completely different connector.
This product worked great just the same as my old one on my Smitty XRC10. It's just a matter of making sure you insert the key correctly or else the remote won't work if you insert it backward. There is a small silver tab on the key of the remote that should align with the small arrow down the opening.
