Yes! Whichever side of the paper you prefer is fine. 300lb. Because watercolor paper is so heavy, it is less likely to buckle.

I was about to give up watercolor until I received some high-quality paint, brushes, and paper as a gift. I'm completely enamored with watercolor right now and can't seem to get enough of it! Although Arches is pricey, it is a high-quality product that works WITH you rather than against you. I experiment with my less expensive paper before moving on to the Arches for the final product.
I've used cheap cellulose watercolor paper and 100% cotton paper makes such a significant difference in performance! But it takes some effort, which I like because it means I don't have to worry about previous layers coming undone when I add a new wash. I'm not implying that other papers are as bad as cellulose paper in this regard; they certainly aren't. However, I've discovered that I need to be a little more cautious with the other papers. Pigments appear to adhere more firmly to arches paper.
All that being said, I wouldn't let this review discourage you from trying 100% cotton papers. Paper tastes are extremely personal, and some of the less expensive cotton papers, such as Bee paper, are still quite nice. I enjoy it a lot when it comes to journaling and practice papers. Just a smidgeon more, I prefer arches. I'm still looking for a 100 100% cotton paper that outperforms arches.
According to two art teachers and one art student I spoke with, this is the best water color paper available. It was a third of the price I could find it for in a store, and it was a teacher discount. Although it was a gift, the teenage art student who received it cried, indicating that it must be good. It may take some time to arrive, so place your order early!.

I've spent a lot of money on other papers (including ARCHES), but nothing compares. It's toothy, which means it's slightly textured but extremely absorbent. This is my first attempt at using 300 lb watercolor paper - I like how paint and water react on this paper. It has a nice weight to it, as well as a pleasing color. Although removing paper from the block each time is a bit of a challenge - and- I chose to remove it before painting so that I wouldn't tear the finished product (if that was the case). ) I'm going to buy this paper again.
This is the first time I've used this paper, and I'm hooked! I like the texture of it because it's so thick. When you're painting with it, it stays flat. Watercolor is a new medium for me. I am self-taught and enjoy the process, but I was about to abandon it because of the other papers I was using. Now I'm ready to try out some of their other papers as well.
Saturation is fantastic—I can lay down watercolors and then lift them up to lighten an area later without sacrificing paper quality. It even stands up to scrubbing with a stiffer brush! The mixture dries evenly. Colors are brilliantly retained. The glued edges are my favorite part of the piece. Buckling is not an option!.
I like having a block so I don't have to tape all of the edges to a board; the paper will still buckle slightly if you're doing heavy washes, but not nearly as much as taped paper would.
