You must apply several coats of wood conditioner, or linseed oil, to the wood before you begin using it, in order to keep paint from soaking into it. Wipe excess off after putting on a thin coat and letting it sit for a few minutes. When I was cleaning my palette tonight, the bottom started to come off like paper. I was really happy with it, UNTIL after I painted I felt compelled to paint it. "Why is this peeling?" was the first thought that came to my mind. Wood is what this is meant to be". When my fingers came across the back of the paper, I realized it was a wood paper cover over a piece of masonite. What?.
In terms of functionality, the palette does everything I need it to do Paint is held in place). I have not encountered any problems with the structure breaking down.
This palette is perfect for my needs thanks to its size and weight. It is a great piece of art for oil paintings. While I was aware of the need to seal it with linseed oil, I had no idea it had to be done. It's the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, since I didn't want to have to seal it following the purchase.
If you decide to clean it, be careful. We use it with our 6-year-old without problems. So we were able to preserve it by not soaking it too much. Her favorite thing about it is that it is larger and she no longer has to use.
In terms of size and weight, this board is perfect, but it is raw wood, so the oil does not slide off like on other varnished boards. You may be able to apply a polish before you start using it, but you'd want to buy something ready to use. There is going to be a problem with polishing it,.
I really like the way this board works for acrylics!.
The item does not appear to be There is enough room to fit multiple colors in it. Buying this item was a good decision for us.
If you are going to use oil paint, you need to prim it first.
