I would say this kit would work best as a supplement for someone who is an advanced beginner or someone who already has some An absolute beginner (such as me) won't have much luck with this. Having quality Lizbeth size 20 thread included was nice, but there is not enough of it for more than one or two smaller It was made with my own size 20 and size 30 threads. In spite of the sparse instructions, the program worked well. Despite providing an explanation of bobbin lace and the basic movements, they don't make it any easier for you to decipher the In many cases, the instructions don't tell you how to make the patterns. Even though I've read over and over the instructions step by step, I still can't figure out how to follow the patterns without making mistake after mistake. It is easier to find beginner patterns and step-by-step instructions by using YouTube and online/historical books and tutorials, rather than searching for them in books. The small pins I haven't used for lacemaking because they are not good for that. This pin works well for holding pairs out of your way while you're working or put your work down (you're stuck using pliers to get the pins out). The corsage pins are great for holding pairs out of the way when you're using them. For my sewing pins (and tomato pincushion), I used my own metal headed sewing pins. It's okay for beginners to use the round pillow. My first attempt to prop it up on cardboard and make it stay was a failure. I eventually propped it on my laptop keyboard or in a small cardboard box and worked from there. In both cases, the weight is so light. These patterns are on thick cardstock they are printed clearly, which is a plus. There is a possibility that the patterns were printed a bit too big for size 20 thread. Getting this kit is probably associated with a person trying to learn bobbin lace, so they likely intend to use it for that purpose. Perhaps Lacis would have been better served by making a kit that included more (and less expensive) thread and simpler patterns, with steps explaining how to complete each one in great detail, slowly, excruciatingly, It is going to be easy to mess up, so basic patterns and plenty of thread are going to be necessary for beginners.
I think one or two of the included patterns would be useful to a more experienced beginner. The 24 included bobbins would also be useful as an addition to a set that someone already has. The advanced beginner may also utilize the small amount of thread included and create a small sampler using it (being less likely to make drastic mistakes that end up resulting in throwing the woven piece away and wasting the bobbins and I like the thread, but I can only give this kit a 3/5.
It contains a lot of basic supplies that are useful for a novice. There is excellent information in everything provided, and it is possible to start weaving lace if one so desired! It would be easier for me if I covered the styrene pillow with felt before I begun. The padding and cover would be an extra step, though. It is worth noting that these bobbins are round, and that they do not have spangles or holes in which they might go It is also possible to buy square bobbins at Lacis, which would likely work better for this application. However, I have not yet tried the projects. However, they do have prickings for some basic lace edges. Considering the prickings and the thread that is included, I'm not sure whether these will provide good support Although the thread included in the kit is very fine, the pricking templates appear large. To begin my work with a book that specifies a specific thread and has pricking templates with scales, I am going to follow a project from that book. Even so, it's a well-organized program with all the basics to get you started, and very conveniently, as well.
There is nothing fancy about this kit. The best advice I can give anyone planning to learn bobbin lacemaking is to get a book and their own tools. Up to now, all I wanted to know was exactly what I needed to proceed. The kit is so crappy that I would have made my own kit if I had known how useless it was. I'm doing a little bit of a wrap up now An uncovered type of hard foam (white) is used in the "lace pillow" It measures about 15x12x1/2 inches thick and comes with a cardboard stand. One spool of white Lizbeth size 20 thread is included (so against The thread is virtually impossible to see. 1. 2. 3. There are copies of instructions no. 4 in the instructions. 24 wooden bobbins in a pack of 5. Pins that have a straight shape.
In the first place, the photos are not representative of what is really in the package. You do not get the bobbin winder with the sewing machine. The "stand" is a joke, as well. If used in this manner, the foam pillow would not be able to support itself. The third problem is that there are few pins that are too coarse in my opinion. OK, now let's talk about the However, the bobbins are of nice quality, even if they are not beaded. might be able to use the foam to create an enhancement for another kit I purchased online. The instructions for lacemaking clarified other instructions I have tried to follow with no success. This is all I have to say. This was a complete waste of money in the long run!.
We were able to investigate whether this was something that was feasible at a very cheap price. It is very difficult for me to use the foam board and cardboard stand since the foam both warps and eats the pins. There are dillled pins with just one use, not to mention that the pins are universal It would be impossible for the foam to be even on any surface because of the warping. For a beginner, it can be quite frustrating! I like the bobbins because they're a nice heavy wood, and I like the heavier weight to help in tension, but you can't spin Rubber bands of different colors are placed at the bottom of the cards to track pairs. That created a lot of friction and I would not recommend it, but it could be circumvented.
It just needs to be said that my husband drilled the holes in the bobbins, and I used a bobbin spangle to do the work. There were problems with the thread in this kit. It felt as if someone had cut it in multiple places and it was impossible to This thread is for Tatting, so I am using it. There is something seriously wrong with the instructions. After buying a book, however, I have to go online even to get help with the book! As a result, I have changed my mind about "Pillows". I hate it when I buy a product only to find out that it was a waste! I liked the bobbins best out of all the components It's amazing how great this company is!.
In order to use this kit, there will be some work to be done on it. Besides the pillow and bobbins, no other supplies were used. It's impossible to tell the pattern from the background. It was impossible for me to use the pins or At a fabric store, you can buy pins and thread. The most basic threads to start with are "Super Fine" pins and size 20 thread. It is covered with fabric quarters that I bought on sale at Joann's Fabric and layered it with felt from Joann's Fabric. the right size. I had to cut 1" off the bobbins because they were too For a beginner like me, this kit worked well. The kit I received was what I expected. The craft was one I really wanted to start at the time and it was what I could afford.
