Singer used to be a very dependable name in sewing machines, even one of the best; however, this product is garbage, and shame on them for continuing to sell such a substandard product. Sewing machines in any price range are hard to come by now that everyone is making masks. I really wanted a better machine, but I settled for this because it was the only one that seemed to be available at the time, and I figured I'd be able to finish my project with it. I was wrong. It worked for a short period of time before the tension became too much to bear. I was only able to sew a couple of stitches before the thread balled up on the underside, and I've since read other people's complaints about the same problem. This model was advertised as being used on "Making The Cut" (which is not why I purchased it). That is something I seriously doubt. The cheap construction and inadequacy of this machine would never be tolerated by professionals, so I returned it to Amazon, though I would have preferred to give it away instead. I figured it wouldn't be much of a "gift" because I'm a seasoned seamstress and couldn't operate it.
They stated that none are included and that you should download it from their website to save paper; however, they do not recognize the MX60 model on their website. Although it appears to be the same as their M1500 model, who knows what might be different.
Once you get the hang of it, the machine is fantastic. I was a novice when I first received the machine. I had never heard of bobbing before. The machine comes with pictures that "show you" how something should look once it's set up, but they aren't very clear on how to get there. If not, don't bother. I ripped my hair out trying to figure out how to insert the thread on the bottom bobbin NOR that you could take the pieces apart (I was in tears hahaha) I spent an hour detangling thread from the spinny pointy thingy (apparently called race hook) because I had installed the bobbin facing the wrong way and when I tried sewing, it wouldn't go through the machine. I was ready to give up on the thing at this point, but because I'm annoying and persistent, I googled the hell out of different models to figure out what I was looking at, and after about 2 days of obsessive trial and error, I was an expert on how to insert the thread on both parts and can do so super quickly. But not thanks to the company, which is a jerk: And, yes, the pictures make perfect sense once you understand what they are. As a result, unless you can find the manual online or have someone who already knows how to put it together teach you, this may not be the best option for a beginner.
Last year, I purchased the Project Runway, and it is in desperate need of a tutorial. It goes without saying that it's hidden in the closet. I needed something that was less complicated, SIMPLE, and could be set up in less than five minutes. That is exactly what this singing machine is. It's fantastic, and I'd recommend it to anyone, whether they're a novice or a pro! This is a must-have item: it's sturdy, dependable, simple to use, attractive, and extremely functional.
Because this is my first time working with a sewing machine, I'll need to consult the manual.
I really like the beginner's product (Singer MX231). It was also reasonably priced. Simple to work with. The only criticism I have is that Singer no longer sends manuals. They must be printed. If you have a printer at home, that's fine; however, I don't. It's a real pain. I'm a visual person, and Singer's website doesn't appear to have a video for my machine, so I used a video I found on Amazon that was for a different model with more gadgets, but it helped with winding a bobbin and threading the needed. It'd be fantastic if all of the machines had videos.
It's light and simple to use, though the needle broke easily when I used it for some reason. I've used up all my needles.
This item performs admirably.
