Questions & Answers

When it comes to heavy fabrics, how does it perform?

Likewise, I am finding that sewing over thick areas is a challenge with this machine as well as another Brother machine I owned. An additional black knob/button on the side of the general use foot is supposed to allow you to lock the foot at the higher position, which can be used if the fabric isn't advancing due to a large area or My experience has been mixed at times, but it does tend to work for me rather often.

The Brother HC1850 that I am waiting for delivery will be useful as a quilter. Other than the walking foot that has an open toe, will I need to purchase additional presser feet such as a foot designed for stitching in a ditch or a 1/4 inch piecing ?

It was bought for my wife, and she enjoys the many options that it comes I reply to your question with a yes & a no It is true. Part#s you'll need - 1) 1/4" Quilting foot Walking foot -SA 185 2) Even Feed 3) When buying the Even Feed WF you will also need the guide for it - The two are sometimes sold as part of a package. The SA 156 is designed to use with this machine. Thank you. I hope this was helpful.

In which case should you use the wide table or the free arm? In what ways are pros and cons different? The machine that I own sits flat into a cabinet and is an old model. ?

With the free arm you can sew sleeves and such. The table is attached to the machine and gives you a wider area to place fabric. You can also use your hand to guide the fabric. For instance, you can slide the free arm into a sleeve or a tight spot for top-stitching on the outside to achieve a finished look to the outside of the garment, especially in places where you want the garment to fit more naturally. Do you find this useful? With the table attachment, you can sew long straight stitch lines or sew stitch lines that need guidance over a long distance, such as down a skirt's length or using both your hands to guide quilt pieces through the machine. Does that make sense? A treadle machine is the machine I learned to sew on. You haven't lived until you've seen an older Singer going up on the floor! Whenever I want a softer finish on a quilt, I use this stitch.

Can you tell me how heavy the machine is?

Despite the fact that I didn't weigh it, it is very light. I am an elderly woman and can only pick it up with one hand.

A longtime customer of Singer's has just left
5/5

I love this machine. Check out my review of the Singer Curvy. This month, I bought two products, but neither worked and I had to return Rather than risk my life savings on this machine because I've only ever owned Singers, I took a chance on it since it was a little less expensive and featured more features, but I was skeptical of it as a substandard brand in comparison to It turns out I was dead This machine is fantastic. I've used it for three consecutive days of heavy sewing and it is still working just fine! A better alternative There's nothing heavy about it, but it feels "solid" compared to The jiggle is less noticeable. There is no noise and it is This machine has an easy threading process and effortless bobbin winding and insertion. A lot of great features, and I especially like the needle-down programming (which can be changed if that is not your thing. The following cons are to be noted Please read carefully

- It's awkward to thread the needle using the needle threader. This is a better version of Singer's. The Brother is very easy to use when it comes to threading. *-- During threading or changing the needles, the light is blocked by your hand. The light is not very bright and is positioned in an unusual location. * (I turned the desk lamp toward the machine. )- If you want a magnet guide for the 1/4 seam guide, then you cannot place it without blocking the presser foot (I'm a quilter). There will be some tape on it (so I'll mark it). I. - Machine vibration is all it takes to knock the power cord out of the machine. This is annoying. I love this machine for these reasons (did I mention I love it? ) It's - The fastest, smoothest, and quietest of all- The stitches need to be neat and tight - -Extension table (which I thought would be useless, but has turned out to be very useful). An easy, smooth process for winding the bobbin The bobbin installation process is quick and easy. I. - Threading is easy to do (by hand)* On the front of the machine, right in front of the stitch chart -- This is a very handy tool. I. - This machine is very easy to use in terms of changing stitch length and width. I. - It is possible to set the needle stop up or down. I. - The sewing speed control (slow is best for thick corners to keep the needle from breaking). I. - To quilt free-hand, feed the dog with a retract. I. - This is a $190 item. A machine that has a lot of features for so little money. This is just a sampling of Brother is my new home! I am here to stay. This is such an impressive system, I'm going to check out some of their higher spec ones. Anyhow, buy it, it's a great machine. I am sorry to say goodbye to you, There's no doubt in my mind that my great-aunt did Given the circumstances, I am sure that my grandmother will forgive me.

This problem occurs with 2 of these models as well
3/5

Purchasing this machine to replace a Brother 6000i was a good decision for me. A new version should have been released. I had the first one for about 3 weeks before it started seizing up as though the bobbin casing was loose. I got my first laptop replaced after only 24 hours. I was able to get my second laptop for roughly a week and a half before it started displaying the same error. In this case, I'm returning it, and I've already ordered a different brand. I sew every day, so I require a reliable brand. I think you're not going to have reliability with this machine. Amazon, however, has been stellar, and I just can't say enough about how easy it was.

This is far worse than we could ever imagine
3/5

I fell in love with this box the moment I opened it. He looked as if he were running in the clouds. There was a time when it worked. The machine I received in late November 2018 is working well. It went from being able to run to being locked up in the first week of March 2019. Due to the fact that I have only had it for four months, the warranty still applies. What an awesome idea, huh? Now that it has been in the store for a week, it has become more valuable. It has been informed to me by the authorized warranty repair shop that this machine is beyond repair. After this past Tuesday's repairs (which are not my responsibility) had already exceeded the amount I paid for the machine. When I called for an update yesterday (the very next Friday) I was told that the issues have become even worse. She asked me plainly "Can you return it?"? It is really important that your money is returned to you. The extended warranty was also purchased when I purchased the machine. I read the reviews before I bought it. I will be looking into getting my money back as I haven't even had the machine for six months, so I still have 6 months left on my manufacturer's warranty. Repair shop told me it wasn't the first machine sold by Amazon in a deteriorated state that wasn't consistent with brand new equipment. I just noted that the return window closed 2 months ago (it had only been 2 months since I purchased So I guess I'll have to see what the repair shop and the manufacturer are able to do AUGUST 2016 UPDATE From the last report from the repair shop, it was determined that proper repairs had been made. As soon as I got home, I tried sewing with it. A stitch is now being skipped by the machine. Previously, it had not done that before it broke and had to undergo My car will need additional repairs. I have to return it to the shop.

A good run has been had by it
4/5

This machine was bought in 2013, and I have been using it regularly since then. Having pieced and quilted a considerable amount of quilts on this machine, it has served me well for the most part. Since I had some experience with it, I knew it wasn't perfect, but I was on a budget, so I I would say it has done very well considering that it's been five years. Though I haven't ever had a technician service it, I open up the foot plate regularly and clean it out. At the time I purchased the machine, and today, as it's nearing the end of its useful life, I was concerned by the fact that the manual specifically states, "In order to prevent damaging this machine, the machine must not be oiled by the user. ". It seems to me that the subtext is, "This machine is really not meant to last all that long, so don't worry about putting too much effort into it. ". "If I paid just under $200, and a minimum service is $100 (as quoted by my local quilt shop), I might as well put that hundred towards a machine that is easy for a beginner to maintain on their own. Due to the fact that my machine is skipping stitches frequently, I have decided to make a change. While I've looked into the timing of it and tried to fix it, I have not been able to figure it out despite countless hours of research and tinkering. Fortunately, despite my frustration to this point, I have spent many enjoyable hours sewing with this machine. I would recommend it to those who are just learning to sew. You should just be aware that it won't last long.

It is misleading for buyers to use warranties
3/5

It is my way of getting the buyer's attention. As far as the parts are concerned, the machine comes with a 25-year warranty. In the event that my feed dogs stopped working, they didn't replace or fix my machine. It was stated that the warranty on my machine was for one year only. br>br>If I had to choose another product I would prefer not to buy another.
