Questions & Answers

Is this the most up-to-date version available? And did they address all of the previous batch issues?

As Thomas mentioned, you'll still need to connect the wheel to a PC to update the firmware, but all of the issues have been resolved, and the wheel now works flawlessly on the XB1 or PC:

What kind of mounting system is used for this wheel? I use the Microsoft 360 Wheel as an example. ?

It attaches to a desk or table using a clamp. The 360 wheel is a good example of this.

I recently bought and returned the TX 458, and I'm wondering if I should try it again?

Don't be afraid to try it again! My original had to be returned due to a defect, but my replacement is working perfectly; I just can't race Forza 5 without it. It is impossible to race with a controller.

Is the three-pedal set shown in the picture included with this item?

It's also shown on the box, so it appears to be that way.

Selected User Reviews For Thrustmaster TX RW Leather Edition (XBOX Series X/S, XOne & Windows)

Unreliable, with a high number of hardware failures
3/5

The failure of the second servo base. This one had only been used for two months when it was purchased. It's a lot of fun when it works. when everything is in place I originally purchased the TX to use with Forza/PCars games, and the first one worked for a short time before dying. I decided to buy a second servo now that I'd had some time to get back into it. The outcome is the same. This one had only been used for a couple of weeks. The race was started, the wheel was calibrated, the mode light flashed a few times, and that was the end of it. According to my research, the power unit appears to be a flaw in this unit. Now I have to finish the arduous warranty process and decide whether to buy a G920 and cut my losses or the Fanatec I was considering in the first place. If you're deciding which rig to buy, stay away from this one unless you like headaches or want to play with the 2010% FFB, which negates any reason to buy it in the first place.

Do you want to try your hand at racing? This is the most cost-effective way to begin with high-quality components
5/5

It works perfectly on both a PC and an Xbox One. As previously mentioned, the pedals aren't up to par - There's no clutch pedal, and the braking isn't progressive, but the steering wheel is incredible. If you want to build a nice racing simulator in stages, this is by far the best place to start. Here's how to put it together: This is it. br>br>

Force feedback is good, and it's a step up from entry-level
3/5

Wheels that are level. I'm still concerned about a few things. I don't have much experience with sim racing, but I have used a few simulator cockpits with various levels of equipment, ranging from entry-level to advanced. to a higher level- end. Take my advice with a grain of salt, but at the very least consider it informed. br>br>I wanted to get a decent sim racing setup at home, and after doing a lot of research, I decided that this was the best option currently available for the price I was willing to pay. I say currently because Fanatec is about to release a direct drive wheelbase that will compete with Thrustmaster's belt-driven wheel lineup. You can pre-order if you're patient enough. Now is the time to order a Fanatec CSL DD. That said, I didn't want to wait months, so I paid $500 for the Thrustmaster TX RW Leather Edition, which includes the base, leather-wrapped controller, and a leather-wrapped controller. T3PA pedals and a wrapped wheel This is probably the best deal you'll find right now or in the near future in terms of overall value. Force feedback can be beneficial. br>br> It's belt-driven, so there's some noise, but steering in a car isn't always silent. It's not a concern for me, but it might be concern for you if you are extremely sensitive to outside noise. I have never felt the need to turn force feedback abo Some games, such as Forza Horizon 4, have poor feedback, but that game is also known for its poor wheel handling. The wheel will quickly rip from your hands during spin outs and drifting if the game has good force feedback. I wouldn't be concerned about the intensity in comparison to higher-end belt-driven and direct-drive models. This is more than enough for the average sim racer, and it puts you in a league with many other entry-level sim racers. Wheels that are barely capable of spinning at any speed or intensity. You can actually feel the road through the steering wheel. br>br>I'd give this wheel a 5/5 for value, but keep in mind that low-cost direct-drive wheels are on the way, and they might be a better deal. However, I must address two serious design/durability concerns as well as one serious usability concern. br>br>My main concern is that the USB cable is not detachable or replaceable by the user. If the USB cable or plug on this wheelbase were to be damaged, you'd have to either buy a new wheelbase or pay a professional to solder a new USB cable to the device internally (assuming you don't have the skills or equipment to do so at home, which most people don't). It also forces you to purchase a USB Type A to Type C adapter or a USB A extension cable instead of just a new cable if necessary. This can't be allowed. Why can't the USB cable be detached and replaced like the (apparently proprietary) power cable? There is no other explanation for this than bad design and greed. Thrustmaster, I believe, anticipates that some customers will damage their USB cables, and that those customers will be more likely to buy a new wheelbase rather than pay for repairs. I'm disgusted by this design flaw, which I believe is motivated by profit. Second, by default, the pedals use a proprietary connector (which is also difficult to replace if it is damaged), which can be converted to USB with the purchase of an adapter. Why? The proprietary connector is larger than a standard USB connector. C is for connector. I can't believe Thrustmaster couldn't do the same thing with USB. The button layout, which appears to have been designed by a lunatic, is the source of my usability concern. Even though this wheel has Xbox buttons and is Xbox compatible, the buttons do not translate to a Windows 10 PC. Instead, you'll be given buttons 1 through 6. This would be acceptable if the buttons were arranged in a logical sequence. That is not the case. Buttons 10 and 3 are in close proximity to one another. Buttons 5 and 9 are adjacent to one another. The numbers 4 and 6 are right next to each other. A switch/button combination is used to operate the numbers 7, 13, and 8. Why aren't these listed in the order they should be? This wheel's truly absurd button mapping makes memorizing and setting controls a nightmare. You may not believe it is bad, but believe me when I say it is. br>br>Finally, there are only two mounting holes for this wheel to be mounted to a cockpit. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but my GTOmega ART cockpit doesn't support it right out of the box (I've been using the included desk clamp until I figure out whether I want to drill holes or wait until I can afford a new wheel). It would be beneficial if Thrustmaster could add a few more potential fastening points to the base without jeopardizing its rigidity. br>br>I like the wheel and am satisfied with it, but it is far from perfect.

For 6 months, it has been a good wheel
3/5

Then there was a $300 brick on top of that. The wheel worked fine right out of the box, with the exception that the RJ11 cord connecting the pedals to the main wheel body would not snap into place. So long as we didn't get too worked up and the cord slipped out of its socket, the pedals worked. br>The wheel worked fine for 6 months before "recalibrating" uncontrollably when connected to the Xbox One. I went back and forth with support, flashing the firmware and doing other things, but they determined that the wheel, which I had purchased the previous summer and given as a Christmas gift along with a driving chair, was toast. So it had only been six months since my son had started using it. In reality, it had been 13 months since the sale, and Thrustmaster refused to stand behind their product. I was not about to be burned again. It's Logitech all the way.

If you want to race in a year, get something else because this junk is going to break
3/5

It's all good until it's not. I'm done with this garbage now that I've had three servos. The warranty should be at least two years, but they know how many break after only one, so they won't do it. This servo is a complete waste of time. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT AS IT WILL NOT LAST LONG.
