Only one xbox and a transfer cable are required. Install the desired hard drive on your Xbox, then plug your transfer cable into a USB port, then plug your old hard drive into the transfer cable, and your Xbox should prompt you to transfer data.
It was a knock-off cable that I ordered from here. off that was only compatible with the original Xbox 360 However, I was able to get a replacement cable from my local Wal-Mart. Mart is compatible with both the original and slim versions of the game. I just used my new cable today, and it worked perfectly; it's also helpful if you can buy a cable that includes detailed instructions on how to transfer in which direction, because there is a specific way to do so.
