Questions & Answers

With this controller, can you do "Shoryuken" on the first try?

Without a doubt. I use them for KoF and Guilty Gear, and they feel great right out of the box.

Isn't everything about the controller new? Is it possible to play this game on the PlayStation 4?

The button layout isn't compatible with PS3 and, given the differences between the 3 and 4, it's unlikely to work with the PS4.

Is this compatible with the PlayStation 3?

Unfortunately, I do not have a PS3 to test it, but there is information on the internet about how to connect a USB gamepad to a PS3 and get it to work. I'd do some research. It works great on the PC, and I use it to run all of my emulators.

These two controllers were purchased for my Japanese Sega Saturn, but the input is not identical. Is it possible to get Japanese controllers for the Sega Saturn?

These are intended for use with PC games. The Saturn console isn't one of them.

Selected User Reviews For Retro Bit - Retrolink USB SEGA Saturn Classic Controller Mac/PC Compatible– Black

The quality is extremely poor
3/5

This controller has nothing in common with a genuine Sega Saturn controller. The D- Because the pad lacks a proper central pivot, pressing in the center of it simultaneously allows you to press all four directions. The shoulder buttons are made of a stiff, loud micro-fibre. The switches and the plastic casing are far more fragile and brittle, as well as being quite inexpensive. br>I ended up buying a used Saturn controller that wasn't working and swapped the PCBs by desoldering the original shoulder micro-controller. I replaced the switches, filed the original Sega's casing (so that the Retrolink one's oscillator would fit), and now I have a working Sega Saturn USB controller. It took some time and cost more than I had anticipated, but after reading the reviews for the new Retro-licensed ones, I decided to go ahead and do it. But I have no regrets about it.

It is superior to its image
5/5

This came as a pleasant surprise to me. Retrolink's clone controllers have a bad rep, but while this isn't a perfect replica, it's more than adequate for my needs and far superior to any other Saturn knockoff I've tried. The D- The pad is either slightly smaller or slightly higher set than the original, but it's still very nice, and the L and R buttons are much louder than their Saturn counterparts. br>br>While this would be ideal as a donor board for restoring a broken original Saturn controller, I think it's nice enough to use on its own.

Pretty good, with six front buttons and two shoulder buttons, but it's a little noisy
4/5

It performs admirably for the price, and is far superior to the other Sega USB gamepads. The directional pad isn't particularly good, but it gets the job done. The buttons make a lot of noise, but they do what they're supposed to do. I bought two of these to use with RetroPie and I'm very happy with them. I bought it because it has the Sega six-button layout, which is ideal for 2D fighting games and is hard to find. The beauty of a Saturn controller is that, in addition to the six front-facing buttons, it also has shoulder buttons, allowing it to be used with the SNES. a word of warning br>br> With Android, this device can only recognize two buttons. It does, however, work flawlessly with both Windows and Debian-based operating systems. RetroPie is a Linux distribution that is based on the Raspberry Pi. When I first tried it with an Android TV box, I thought it was broken, but when I tried it with a few other Android devices, the same issues occurred regardless of the app or Android version.

On PC, it's pretty good for the price
4/5

This was a cheap fighting game pad that I picked up. While it works flawlessly on a PC, it becomes a little iffy once you go beyond that. br>Let's start with the build quality: it feels nice in the hand and appears to be able to withstand the nearly constant rounds of Skullgirls and BlazBlue: The Lost Legend. Central Fiction has done a good job. I was able to consistently execute the complex motions required for special moves. It isn't quite as good as the original Sega Saturn controller, but it is still enjoyable. br>br>I mention this because it becomes unreliable when used outside of my PC. This is due to the fact that the button layout on the PS3 is a little strange. Despite what the face buttons say, they are not positioned in the same way as buttons on more traditional DirectInput controllers. As a result, games don't recognize the ABXY buttons as such. Instead, A/B/C are X(Square)/Y(Triangle)/A(Cross) and XYZ are B(Circle)/LB(L1)/RB(R1), respectively. The second, and far more serious, issue is that the "Start" button on the PS3 is actually "Select. " This effectively renders any game requiring you to press Start unplayable. This, ironically, means that I will be unable to play Virtua Fighter 2 or Fighting Vipers on my PlayStation 3. br>br>If you're looking for a PS3 fightpad, you'll have to look elsewhere. It's an excellent controller for PC.

A perfect four out of five!   A solid four out of five! This controller does an excellent job of recreating the look and feel of the Sega Saturn model S game pad
4/5

There are a lot of negative reviews on here about the product because of quality control issues; I haven't had any issues with mine, but even if I did, the thing sells for $5. 10$. I'd also like to point out that many of the QC issues appear to be from earlier reviews; this could be coincidental, but it's also possible that it's not. br>br>While this controller has a similar weight and button feel to the pad it mimics, there are a few differences that I noticed right away. For one thing, the D- This controller's pad is not made of the same material as the official S. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the Retro-style plastic is harder and more glossy. The choice of link is simply not as good as the original's softer, almost rubberized feel. The six face buttons and rubberized start button are also very nice, and they do an excellent job of imitating the original with little to no difference. The retrolink's shoulder buttons, on the other hand, have a deeper click and require a bit more force, which I believe is due to the fact that they don't use the micro-switch. set with a switch - up on the S's internal workings br>br>I believe the included video will speak for itself when it comes to using the controller to play games. The true criterion for determining the quality of any D- Pad is the controller's performance in 2D fighters, and this is where it really shines! One of the best d-pads is on the original S pad. I'm happy to report that the Retro-style pad and button layouts for these types of games are now available, and I'm excited to say that the Retro-style pad and button layouts for these types of games are now This is followed by the link version. On this pad, I had no trouble performing quarter circles forward and back or the shoryuken maneuver. The button response times were also excellent, and the device's use of USB eliminates the possibility of input lag caused by an adapter. Time will tell if I encounter any of the dreaded QC issues, but the performance of the device in use leads me to believe that if this one fails, I will most likely purchase another.

While the above may sound like a 100% positive review there are two issues I have with this controller that I believe will take it down by 1 star. For starters, the shoulder buttons do not feel as good as the original pad, or even remotely similar to the original pad. For two, the plastic they used on this isn't my favorite because it feels more brittle than I'd like, but for $10, it's fine. Overall, if you're looking for something to resemble your oldschool library or a cheap-o gift, this is a good option. I would recommend picking up this fight pad without hesitation because it does the job well.
