Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use this to force VGA?

Yes, but some games will never work with a vga adapter, regardless of what you do.

Is it possible to use a SDHC card?

You should be able to do so, but you'll need to format it to fat32 first. I have a Micro Center 256GB microSDXC Class 10/ UHS-II card that I use. $33 for one flash memory card

Will mine work on my Dreamcast, which can play burned games? By the way, I have the Model 1 Dreamcast, which is supposed to work only with those models. ?

You should be good to go at this point. To prevent it from overheating, use the gdemu app to add games and the 1 watt resistor mod. For directions on both, use Google.

Is it compatible with the atomis wave games?

The firmware on this clone cannot be upgraded because it is a clone. It works if you want to play the official Dreamcast game list. It's hit or miss with indie music that's come out in recent years. Or stuff that has been hacked in order to play games on arcade boards. br>br>With them, it'll be hit or miss. This was a clone device with a very stable Firmware for the existing Dreamcast library, but everything else was up to whoever built it. Many of the INDIE items I've purchased do appear in the file lists and can be played, but they lack a proper name. A few things haven't worked, and some hacked items haven't worked at all.

Make sure to clean the power supply pins on your Dreamcast when you get it, or your Dreamcast will fail to boot or crash randomly, even if it works fine with the stock GD ROM drive. Spent a couple days and finally tried it on another v1 Dreamcast I had and it worked better but still crashed, after reading a forum I found someone had the same issues I had and their fix was to clean the power supply pins, which I did and it now works flawlessly after hours / months of I'd recommend clearing any corrosion on the power supply pins with Bar Keepers Friend or some type of liquid with microbeads / abrasive in it, then cleaning with rubbing alcohol; I also did the PicoPSU mod, which I highly recommend; old power supplies may also cause issues; there is also a program where you just drag and drop the game files and it automatically creates folders, but I forget the name; I'd stick with. GDI images are required for the full experience, and a 128GB SD card should suffice; 64 GB and 128 GB SanDisk cards are guaranteed to work in FAT32 format. Do not attempt to update the firmware on these clone GDEMUs; you will end up with a paperweight, and there is no reason to update in the first place. There are no problems with these clones; as I previously stated, if you start having problems, it's either your pins need cleaning or the caps in your power supply aren't supplying proper voltage, which is why I recommend the PicoPSU mod; that way, you can use an external power brick with a barrel plug and easily replace it if it fails. This device reduces load times and makes the Dreamcast much quieter. It also eliminates the need to swap discs. Another advantage is that it is currently for sale.

Right out of the box, it worked perfectly
5/5

FIRMWARE SHOULD NOT BE UPDATED! This is a GDEMU clone, and updating the firmware has been proven to brick these things, so I'm not sure if the other reviewer is lying or confused about this product. Mine came with the most recent firmware and is compatible with every gdi I've tried. Because my files are already in the correct format, there's no need to rename them. There are options for in-home entertainment. In addition to forcing 480p over my Pound HDMI cable, the game resets (start a b x y). There are very few games that will not work with this, and many of those that do will have 480p patches available (Dino Crisis, for example). br>br>The only issues I've had are a few random freezes, but a simple reboot brings the game back to life. This will also remove homebrews and unreleased/leaked games. With the GDI shrinking tools, it can also play trimmed games.

The original's clone board
5/5

DO NOT APPLY THE FIRMWARE UPDATES. Almost everything is possible to run. This is a clone board, meaning it uses the same basic components as the original, but it lacks some proprietary features. In short, DO NOT UPDATE THE FIRMWARE; IF YOU DO, YOU WILL BRICK AND BREAK IT. br>br>This board's version is rock solid, and the firmware it runs is STABLE and works with almost everything right out of the box. Slowdowns and freezing can be caused by a bad ROM file or the game being forced into VGA mode. Do not make any changes to its firmware. br>br>Excellent alternative to a broken CD drive or if you don't want to swap your discs. Make sure you have a compatible Dreamcast; later models of the Dreamcast will not work with this device; look up an identification guide. br>br>Works with almost all GDI or CDI roms; make a clean rip or find a solid well-known Rom; make sure you get the right menu file management system; you will have to choose between CDI and GDI. The games that are FORCED into VGA mode appear to have the most slowdown and freezing issues. It's hit-or-miss if you want to play homebrew games. The homebrew creator had to use one of the two MIL CD exploits that the device recognizes in order for it to work. On multi-disc games, you can switch discs with a button press, and you can force non-VGA games into VGA mode without having to use a codebreaker disc. Keep in mind that about 30 games will never work in VGA mode, so you might as well use S-Video instead. An upscaler is used in this video. The device is designed to work with memory cards that are 32 gigabytes in size. However, I was able to get 64GB and 128GB cards to work by formatting them to the fat32 file system on my Xbox 360. For the best results, purchase cards from well-known manufacturers such as Sandisk. If you get a bigger card to work with it, you can put almost all of the good DC games on one card, which greatly improves loading times.

Everything is in order! It's simple to set up and performs flawlessly
5/5

Do not attempt to update the firmware, as other reviewers have stated. The unit will be bricked as a result of your actions. Firmware version 5 was installed on my device. I've got Windows 8 installed and haven't had any issues running images yet. Pier Solar, for which I had read that previous firmware versions had some issues, worked flawlessly. Check your images and SD card if you're having problems; it's possible that images that work fine in an emulator won't work in the GDemu. From what I've seen so far, if your image burns to a disc and plays on the Dreamcast, you shouldn't have any problems. Having said that, I did upgrade the majority of my images from CDI to GDI format. The CDI formats are compressed to fit on a CDROM, so there may be gaps in the content or poor audio quality. I use SanDisk Ultra 32GB Class 10 SD cards and have had no issues with them. People have complained about their Dreamcasts overheating after the installation on various message boards. The airflow within the unit is affected by the removal of the GDROM drive. Along with my GDemu, I installed a 3D Printed mount and card holder, which appears to keep the airflow close to stock, keeping the power supply cool. I haven't noticed any changes in the temperature of my unit. It does warm up, but not any more than the unit did when it was brand new. Others have reported that without the mount/card holder, they have experienced heat issues. If that's the case, there's talk of modding the power supply to remove the 12v regulator, which isn't used in the US version once the GDROM is removed. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and would strongly recommend it to any Sega Dreamcast fan!.
