It is true. There are no restrictions based on region.
You don't even get a charger with it.
The game is a Japanese import, but GBA or GBAC Games don't have any restrictions on where they can be played, so it doesn't matter where it's from. The problem is that it does not play English games, but charges just as much.

There is a mistake in the description. I was pretty disappointed and misled by the description of the item provided by the seller. There are a few light scratches on the top of the shell, but it also has some deep scratches. It's a fairly ugly piece, even though it's small. In spite of the fact that the inside of the shell is fine, the seller described the screen as "beautiful". On the inside of the screen, it appears to have some sort of damage. There's a very small indicator at the top of the page, but it's easily noticed. There is a point that is damaged on the screen that appears to be illuminating. In spite of the system’s apparent smooth operation, the LR buttons don’t seem to work reliably. Additionally, there was some kind of 3rd party charger provided with the system that I had not As a result, I'm a little disappointed with an item that I paid $80 for. Although I realize it is an older system, and it may have some flaws, the description of the seller is what convinced me to buy it. If I was to buy from this seller, I would ask to see pictures of the product in advance.
My collection will be enriched when I add a Gameboy SP to it.
