My kite was flown in near perfect conditions off a balcony of an ocean front rental home on the Outer Banks. It did go down a couple of times. I probably should have paid more attention to the task because I wasn't paying enough attention to it. Specifically, I was using a good string reel with better line compared to the kit that came with it. During the crash into the surf, the kite was being bested by a medium-sized wave. This may have saved the kite. She climbed back out of the surf, drenched in the surf and soaking wet, once I got tension back on the line. As it was pretty clear to me that it would be lost or broken before I got to it, I was very surprised to find No kite was ever lost and the kite ran without a hitch. With those ideal conditions, this was a relatively easy kite to fly with the only drawback being that it did need to be monitored and worked a little else it might find its way to the ground. While I am not sure why, I have flown in other aircraft and could get airborne and quickly tie off even if you stepped away. In the for beginners category, I didn't give it 5 stars for that reason. There may be some variation in results, but I think this kite is pretty great for the price.
I love the colors on this kite. was looking for a rainbow one, and this was the one I chose because of its Frank Lloyd Wright-like design A design in the style of the Empire State Building. There's no comparison between this rainbow and the other Amazon version that shows up higher in search results. I've also seen one of the ones Amazon sells directly at the park, which is just as bright. As you can see in the sun, this one looks like stained glass because it's appliqué rather than printed. It comes in a small package, maybe 2' wide, and you have to put two side pieces together inside the pocket.
