Almost all of the rock molds I have are part of the Woodland Scenics collection, and they all have You describe a mold that does not have markings like the one you describe. It was my regret that I couldn't assist you.
On the Amazon page for the $244 Woodland Scenic N scale, I found this. The free terrain and landscape materials have been designed to make it easy to construct N scale lightweight layouts. Creating hills, mountains, and a low-lying area is the result of inclining terrain These areas are low lying. The use of foam sheets makes for flat and elevated areas in buildings and towns. You can cover your terrain with plaster cloth to create a harder surface. Add tunnel portals and culverts, install rock clumps, and install tunnel portals. We offer a wide variety of scenery products to help you build roads and landscapes. It is a sturdy, completed layout that requires no plywood base or additional structural support. This layout is pictured with the Town and Factory Building Set (S1485) and Scenic Ridge Atlas Track Pack (ST1182) (sold separately). In all, more than 70 products are offered, such as lightweight bases, risers and incline, plaster cloth, rock faces, tunnel portals, turf, ground cover, trees, road system, and track beds. This layout measures 3 feet wide by 6 feet long when completed. The buildings, vehicles, and track are not included in the game.
The molds will produce a very realistic rock mountain if they are used correctly. Grasping rocks from the outside is difficult because they are heavy and hard. Plaster can be mixed with cast rock to blend, splice, and blend with cast rock. You can color them (see Woodland Scenics website for instructions) to give them a more realistic appearance You can watch videos below. A bunch of rocks glued together from the outside will just look like a bunch of rocks.

I found the painted effect to be very real. Moreover, it is very easy to cut once it has.
Before I acquired this tool for making rock features for my train layout, I had never used one like this. Cast plaster moldings are perfect for this, since they can be easily removed after drying. The best part is that you can wash it up and use it.
Using this method with polymer clay produces good results, but you have to spray water into the mold first to avoid bad sticking.
Creating patterns on rocks is a great idea. However, these are made for thicker rock projects. They would not be suitable for things like journals since the rock is pretty thick. You could put 1/4 to 1/2 filled with thin rock for a smaller, thinner rock though.
The plaster of Paris transforms ordinary rocks into stunning ones. A couple of them popped out right away. More will be bought by me in the future.
The fine cracks in the molding probably still work just fine.
For rock faces, we are planning to use resin as the molding material.
