Growing up I had one of these in the 1950's, and I find it incredibly enjoyable. My favorite thing about this kaleidoscope is the colors! It is a joy to see the color, variety, and beauty of the images! I was more than satisfied with the service! You need to keep in mind that it's not super sturdy, so I wouldn't let a small child play with it alone. Initially, I didn't think that was a defect because the end you turn seems pretty loose. I think that it works.

In terms of colors and varieties, the number of little colourful bits is not as pretty, nor in terms of variety, nor in terms of variety and number as in previous years. They are neither interesting enough to be gifted as intended nor to be kept. Having returned home.

Though I haven't given this to the 5 year old yet, based on what I have seen, it does appear to be exactly what I had imagined. I do not think it would break easily if it were to be abused by a small child.
