I checked several similar products and found this to be the perfect size, not too small like other products I checked out. With no scratches or bruises, it has taken a few tumbles. I like the plastic because it's nice and durable and has sort of a matte finish that prevents sliding. As for the coin hatch (I do not know what it is called where the cork normally goes), it latches on very securely. There is no way for a kid to come loose from it on his own, yet it's fairly easy for the kid to open. Piggy banks are our favorite! We love this one!.
