The software is great, just the way we wanted it, and I would give it five stars were it not for one major flaw. As far as I can tell, there is no mechanism for securing the lid Unlike other boxes you might bring home for a family dinner, it does not snap on or close tightly to keep it in place, but this is kind of a prerequisite for a box used to hold insects little kids may want to show their parents. The lid cannot be secured, so my son can't bring anything into the house with it, which defeats its (and, no, we don't hold critters captive for days on end, but we do enjoy taking them inside for a little bit so we can ooh and aww over how beautiful they are before we release them back into their natural habitat.
In addition to making my kids excited about bugs, I'm also excited to put an end to the misperception that spiders are a threat. It seemed as though the spiders had gone by the morning each time I tried to use the barn. It has taken me days to figure out how they got out, but having carefully examined the box for days, I took the lid off today for a closer inspection and confirmed that, yes, I did manage to loose two spiders in my daughter's bedroom. It is frustrating that we will have to continue using the canning jars since it is hard to add bugs when there is a webcam attached The other issue with these was that we took them down to the creek to see if we saw anything interesting there. Even though I made sure the handles were secure before giving them to my kids, they kept popping out while they were carrying You would normally carry them by the handle, but then the handles would pop out on the side. There is no way the handles would have held if we had caught a frog or something else with weight in the box. Although their handles are not more secure and there is the mystery of the disappearing house spiders, these critter barns are a nice addition to any garden. Even when the lid is properly closed, I don't trust it not to pop off if a small child were to "play" with the barn while animals were inside. I recommend that kids ages 4+ use them because the handles and lids are easy to Considering how easy it is to open, I think it's too easy.
There are a lot of tiny parts in this thing. The dimensions were incorrect and I was surprised to find out how small it was. I apologize for not verifying them. As well as the lid, it comes off easily. The unit is nice because it allows you to see what's inside and has a ventilation hole and light, etc. But I think it should have cost no more than $10. I bought it for a very low price. A RECENT UPDATE Reducing the star rating down to one. With a price of $15, this thing is a complete rip-off. In just the past few hours, I have bought an item three times its size and completely clear (including the Right, this far superior product comes in at almost half the cost of this poorly made one.
I bought this item for my daughter but it turned out to be smaller than she expected. In addition to the magnifying glass on top, which allows you to look up close at the inside of your barn, there is a removable circle-shaped lid that can hold food and a light feature that can be turned on and off along with a handle bar so you can carry your barn. There is no need to zoom in on your kid because the device is very small and easy to handle One thing I do not like about this box is that there isn't a lock. There is too much ease with which the lid can be removed. It is because of this reason, and because of this reason alone, that this is not a This one reason alone has led me not to buy another one for my nephew or anyone else. It serves as a container for praying mantis egg cases at the moment. A frog can easily remove the lid of the egg once it hatches, so we will put them outside as soon as they hatch.
Clearly the lid on the green box does not close The contents of the bag will leak out when your child tips it over. It is impossible to magnify with the magnifying glass. The space is very small.
The rolli polli obsession of my 6 year old son is reason enough to order this. Obviously any other bug would be welcome as well. Initially, I gave him one of my good Mason jars, but he dropped and broke it later on. Therefore, I wanted to provide him with something more secure. While looking for a light in a critter box, I noticed this one. He never got a chance to try the top out because his sister stole it first. This is true - the top does not stay in place very I believe it is mainly so you can release whatever wildlife you have caught as soon as possible. The first thing she did was to take off the little cap on There must have been somewhere she hid or lost it. Despite her two years, she is as cute as a Has a weird habit of taking stuff and hiding it somewhere. Now there is no critter cap on the top. In the end, I emailed the company that sells it, and they sell spare There is a lot of risk that this part will get lost. It is a great customer service site. I ordered 2 from them. About $2 bucks is the cost of the caps. A new box is still better than buying an old one. In general, this box is for older kids who are able to keep up with the stuff, not 2 year old kids who like to hide things. My overall impression is positive and I would order from this seller.
A toddler running around the cage with the lid included seems to be an issue only when jumping with it. The lid issue must be related to the fact we do not run or jumble the bug cage, especially when it is occupied. I do not have lid issues, but we also do not run or jumble the bug cage. You should choose your kid's toys according to the way they play. We are housing a caterpillar which looks like a woolly bear. As big as the cage is, I wouldn't give it to anything permanently, but it would make a great guest house for short-term stay. It's an adorable touch to have the light on. It is great that you can drop things in the compartment when the lid is open.
