I decided to go ahead with it based on my son's maturity level and interest in science, but it is recommended for ages 5+. During their exploration of the positive and negative poles, the children picked up the disks and pushed them around. I did have to return one magnet (the horseshoe shaped one) because my three year old dropped it immediately when he was playing with it, but I would recommend this set!.
