The caterpillars are not included, instead, an offer is included for fresh and live caterpillars. The habitat is of a great size and every caterpillar became a butterfly within a short amount of time. enjoys watching them emerge and releasing them in her yard after she has seen them emerge. This is both educational and fun for her. I plan to buy her "refills" frequently so she can continue to enjoy the process.
This little flat Velcro life cycle chart is great. We purchased the habitat when the caterpillars were still too cold, and thus appreciated the voucher for a free caterpillar that we could use at any time.
Easy to use I enjoyed the kit because it is very educational, and I enjoyed watching each butterfly emerge from its We didn't have a problem with the poop there, but some reviews suggest scooping it out to help the caterpillars eat better. The kit says not to open the caterpillar jar because it might introduce bacteria, but we hadn't encountered that problem with ours. Additionally, it causes a mess since catapillars spin webs everywhere, and if you open the box, the caterpillars will be entangled in those webs. Our 5 butterflies emerged after three days (as instructed) after the chrysalides had formed, we had cleaned off the webbing that had been around them and waited for them I really like this kit.
In a nutshell, My 2 1/2 year old and my niece, who is 6 years old, have been using this since it came out. My enthusiasm was low, but I remained in a state of worry, as the caterpillars were scheduled to arrive on a 90-degree (Insect Lore sent us an additional cup of caterpillars for no charge), I had to lift each cup of food due to about three caterpillars stuck underneath it (I don't think they were packed that way, I think the delivery driver dropped them there). There was one death as a result of I fed the other nine caterpillars and 7 of them ate well and grew into chubby little guys within a week. One of them refused to eat and just shrank down. In addition to the 8 cocoons I had, one had fallen when being transferred to the logs, so I placed it close to the net according to the directions. It didn't seem to be any problem for any of the eight. We enjoyed the whole process, it was a cool experience, and we'll definitely be ordering from insect lore again in the future.
It was clear they were in love with The girls had a good time learning from the experience. It also taught them to be patient as well as teaching them the life cycle of butterflies. Particularly for the youngest child, this was true. It's important to understand that the caterpillars don't come with the kits. I was unaware of this when I purchased these kits. Getting the caterpillars and kits are separate activities that you must arrange after they are delivered to you. There were no changes to the original. Now that I look back, I understand why this happened. The money was well spent.
So, we're going to have a summer theme this year called "Summer of Science"! It was easy to decide to buy this kit after I read Since it was probably 90 degrees when I ordered, I did it at that temperature I removed the caterpillars immediately from my mailbox after they were dropped off by the postal employee). Her caterpillars thrived on a shelf on her closet shelf, as they were protected from sunlight and drafts. Despite their small size, all 5 caterpillars developed into their chrysalises, and they all became beautiful butterflies. I'm so proud of you! A great product because it was easy to use, informative, and had all the tools to accomplish our goal!.
As for the kit, it was fine, but when I received the caterpillars and ordered extra one cup of them, only one remained alive. The other four died. My first action when the box arrived was to open it.
Kindergarten and up Nature is working hard right before our very eyes as 4 kids learn to watch it. This is a great.
I enjoyed watching my children grow from caterpillars into butterflies, and then watched them be released! My daughter was 5 years old and my son was 11 years old. In fact, my parents and I found it to be quite satisfactory. You should definitely check it out!.
