We were excited when we saw the commercial for this toy, but after receiving it and setting it up, we were disappointed. My 1 yr. A grandson from another state celebrated his birthday. In putting this together, I was concerned about the remarks. My son was the one I called. He claimed that it was simple, and that his three-year-old son had no trouble with it. It seemed to be a lot of fun for him. My daughter-in-law instructed me to look for the child's main birthday present. I believe I made a wise decision because it appears to be a toy that will last a long time and grow with the child (children).
We've had it since December of 2007. We got it for our son, who was only a year old at the time, as a Christmas present. He was enthralled by the games and pressed the buttons with his fingers. He is now five years old, and his younger brother is four years old, and they are currently playing. The Thomas game is a big hit with them. I'm amazed they still care about a learning system. It was the best $16 I ever spent (at the time).
My baby girl is thirteen months old. She hasn't figured out how the TV and the controller are linked, but she does 'dance' to the First Moves game. I believe she will eventually grasp the games and enjoy them thoroughly. We play together while sitting on the floor. I had to look everywhere because I'm guessing they don't make these anymore? In any case, she adores it and makes frequent use of it. I bought her a bunch of games to go along with it, and it's been working out great so far! Many reviews stated that it did not work or that the craftsmanship was not long lasting. For my niece, this has not been the case thus far. This is an excellent item.
With Leap Pad, I expect to spend a lot of quality educational time in the coming years. I have a 7-year-old son for whom I've purchased numerous Leap Pad products. We are ardent supporters.
