Sorry, I'm not sure where you are coming from. Using just the cubes, the answer would be yes, but the security would not be very high. It would seem that if you added additional screws to the decorative bars behind the back bar to secure the unit together, you would be able to do so. There is a piece across the back of the bench at the top that is about 1 1/2" wide. It doesn't show up in the picture, but it is attached to the bench's back. I am not sure how secure it would be.
