There is no problem using the engine with Bachmann track. Currently the technology will work with the latest cars, which have knuckle couplers. However, it will not work with the older cars made in the 1970s, 1980s, and even 1990s. This type of coupler is the old-fashioned horn hook style. It is possible to replace those old horn hook couplers with Kadee couplers, and they do a great job. My choice will be a Kadee coupler #5 or a Kadee coupler #148. The cost for two pairs is about five dollars.

Engines that are DCC ready have a computer programmed into them, which allows them to be operated through a computerized system. The transformers remain compatible with standard track and can be run on that as well.

The first thing I would tell you to do is to not let the price deter you. (I am used to Bachmann prices) It runs extremely smoothly, is very quiet, and can pull about 25 to 30 tons. It is easy to drive 30 cars and looks good at the same time. It would be fair to say that this engine earns 5 stars overall.
