There is a rechargable battery in the helicopter itself. A set of AA batteries powers the remote control. A usb cable can be used or you may charge the copter via the remote control if you do not have access to a usb port. In your remote, you can use rechargable AA batteries. For me, this is a very good buy. use it pretty much every day to fly inside my house. It flies perfectly and is easy to control. As it is very light, it will be pushed out of the air by a fan. This plane flew right out of the box the first time. It would make a good beginner model. As well, it's very durable, because I accidentally flew it into my ceiling fan while it was on high, and it flew across the room very quickly. Oh no! Hey, it wasn't damaged at all! I picked it up and there wasn't anything broken! There's nothing wrong with it, it still flies just like The helicopter was hit by the ceiling fan again 2 weeks later, which was my fault, with no problems. It is the best indoor helicopter I have ever owned. Though it will not fly well when the wind is a bit gusty, even if it's a little brisk. As far as I am concerned, I prefer to be indoors. It hovers in place very well and is quite powerful, so be careful not to smack the ceiling upon takeoff. It has an adjustment for the trim to stop it from spinning in circles as well. I would say that I love it and would purchase it.
As you get used to flying this helicopter, it takes some time to get the hang of it. It took my brother just a little bit of practice for him to learn to fly! You will have a lot of fun once you get that down. I also love the way it works. Only complaint I have about it is that it only lasts for a short time before it runs out of battery, maybe 20 minutes, then it takes forever to charge it up again. Furthermore, the helicopter requires 6 batteries, which will need to be changed constantly because the same controller is used to fly the helicopter as well as to charge it. A USB charger is included with some of them, my brother's came with one, buts mine did not. In general, it is a great helicopter for missions of less than 40 minutes or for short durations of time.
