For a hollow plastic box, it's not too heavy. Even if clipped items are distributed, it will not tip over. If you want to put something heavy in the bottom, you can open it up.
They can be bent slightly, but they are extremely rigid.
They have a hard plastic feel to them. When you bend it with your hand, it flexes a little, but nothing when you use an airbrush at 20 psi. 30psi. I'm not sure what you mean by "high."

This was purchased to paint fine scale models. Everything appears to be in good working order, with the exception that the alligator clips do not have the rubber tips as shown on the box. Although slightly disappointing, it appears to be a good product, which I would recommend with the caveat that it will need to be modified to accurately represent the picture on the box.
It comes in the new packaging that one of their photos depicts. It's advertised to have 20 alligator clip sticks, but you'll actually receive 21 in case "the item is bent or damaged during the post. " The base has a good amount of weight on it; my only suggestion is to add four rubber feet to the bottom so it doesn't slide. " It also includes a small baggie containing rubber tips, which you can use or discard. There will be 22 rubber tips in total. I wouldn't recommend bending the sticks because they are extremely stiff and likely to snap, but they are sturdy. I wish they had more flexibility, but I understand why they are the way they are. The holes for the sticks on the base aren't too big, and they only wobble slightly. Just make sure you push it all the way down until it feels secure; otherwise, it will be wobbly. If you hold the base in your hand while inserting the sticks, it may come apart; if this happens, simply hot glue it shut. You won't have that problem if you stick the sticks to the base while it's on the table.
The wires have a good amount of stiffness to them. The foundation is substantial, but not nearly enough, in my opinion. The fatal flaw is that the wires cannot pass through the holes in the base. So the wires sway, but they're not going to fall down*. As a result, two hands are still required for painting. The wires will fall down because some of the holes near the edges aren't as deep as those in the center. br>br>As a result, I began to use it as a drying rack. Then it occurred to me that I could use the wires as barriers to stabilize a plane fuselage or wing on the ground. br>br>In one case, I took two wires and covered them with modeling clay before attaching a part that required wire threading. br>br>So it's useful, but not exactly what I expected. My solution will most likely consist of selecting several wires and using hot glue to close up the slop in the hole, thereby resolving the wobble. br>br>Improvements suggested: br>br>

In place of the two sets/lots I ordered, I only received one set. (which no longer appears to be available). This was taken care of by Amazon (the problem appears to be with the seller, so I'll leave a review for them to consider). br>br>Item is much better than I anticipated; metal'skewers' (rather than bamboo, as most people do) that are strong (and can't be bent with just your fingers); pads to protect alligator clips from scuffing - These, in my opinion, are thicker and more durable than shrink tubing. The weight of the stand is just right to keep it from tipping over. If necessary, I will add a magnet or additional weight. br>br>Overall, the quality is far superior to what I had anticipated - I just wish it had come with the second set, as it was supposed to be a bundle.
This guy is an excellent value for the money. It isn't flawless, but it serves its purpose. br>br>At first, I was going to complain about how poorly the base held the sticks, but you have to push them all the way in to seat them. The sticks and holes should ideally be tapered to seat themselves, but at this price point, I doubt they'll be able to do so. br>br>The rubber end caps are not pre-installed. I've got them installed, but I'm not sure they're useful. Because they're so thick and the alligator clips are so small, they only open up about 1/8th inch (or 3 mm) when you put them on. If you're working with delicate, thin parts, you should definitely use them. However, the clips aren't sharp enough to damage my styrene components, so I don't bother with them.
It does a decent job, but it's best for small parts. br>I first used the alligator clips to paint these small bicycles, and that was about the limit of what I could do with them. br>There were rubber covers included in the set. br>The wires were stiff, and I didn't try to bend them, but they feel substantial enough for the intended purpose. br>There are two parts to the base. Pushing a wire through a hole in the top will cause the bottom to pop out. I'm not sure what the point is, but it's not a disadvantage. br>The wires DO fit into the holes well. There's some play in the top holes, but if you push the wire in with a little force, you'll hear a "click" as it settles into the hole in the lower base; at that point, it's held quite snugly. br>For small parts, I would recommend this.
This setup is way overpriced for what you get, but I didn't feel like building the alligator sticks myself or going the ghetto route of sticking them into foam or cardboard or whatever. I'm glad I purchased it because it has changed the way I airbrush. br>br>I strongly advise you to get or build something similar. There's no need to wait for one side to dry before airbrushing the other, and no need to worry about small pieces being blown away by the wind. I was able to cut down on my airbrushing time by an order of magnitude, especially when priming.
I'm glad I bought it because it's been extremely useful for painting small arms. other minor details for the characters I create I like that the clips came with rubber tips, but I've found that I prefer to leave them off most of the time so far (seems to clamp a little more securely without them). It used to be such a pain to only be able to paint one tiny side at a time, then fumble around and wait for it to dry before moving on to the next, but now I can clip the piece on, paint all or almost all of it at once, and set it to dry securely. For someone like me who is easily irritated, this is a lifesaver. It was also a great value. It was well worth the money.
