I still bought it and rated it 4 stars, so why did I do that? I can confirm that this set is indeed hardwood, that adds quite a bit of weight over the Home Depot pine, and it is also 1/2 inch thicker in diameter. This will help the pieces stand on grass compared to my DIY set, and the hardwood shouldn't absorb too much damage. In my search of many of these sets on Amazon, I chose go sports due to their larger diameter, many of the other hardwood sets are still only 2". On amazon, staples, and walmart you are unlikely to find a cheap white board for $9. 99 and this is included with an eraser and magnetized top (that counts as a $5 value) plus the carrying bag ($5 value), vs making my own crate from scratch. It cost me 18 dollars to make it myself (not counting equipment or time) and the result is clearly a lesser product. So until I get a lathe (probably never) and can turn my own 2" discs, it's not worth it. Fortunately, the skittle scatter game arrived just in time for a picnic with a large group. At the weekend, I went to a conference (over 100 people). This Skittle Scatter set has a lot of good reviews, as opposed to some other sets whose reviews complained that their wood broke after a few plays. This set has improved my experience playing. As far as I can tell, I have not encountered any problems. Three games later, there has been no breakage of wood. Playing it was fun, and many people ( onlookers) were interested in what it was and where it could be obtained. There is no doubt in my mind that this game was a great choice. The cost of this one may have been a bit higher than other ones, but it's worth the money. As you would expect (you get what you pay for) it is well-made. Only problem is that the top of the skittles is trimmed preventing the balls from getting damaged.
