Questions & Answers

Splendor has been called a "filler" by some. "I'm worried that the game will become stale quickly; how much do you think there is in terms of replay value?" ?

(A) Re- play- ability: Because of the cards, this game has a lot of replayability. Because different people will employ different strategies, victory point tiles are distributed at a random rate. Because it's so popular, there's a good chance that they'll make an "expansion" that adds more depth in the future. /or a wide range of options. (B) A filler is a material that is used to fill in the gaps between Gamers (not average Joes who play games occasionally, but People Who Game) use the term "filler" to describe what they do. A great deal of) usage. Fillers are quick (usually under an hour) and simple (in comparison to brain-based exercises). Chess, for example, is a good way to burn calories. They play an important role in the gaming world; if you've only played 3-D games before, you'll know what I'm talking about. After 9 hours of a very difficult game, half of the players are looking for a simpler, faster game to play before heading home (at which point the other half will stay for yet another brain-teasing game). Fillers are used when you have a long, burning game. Or when half of the guests arrive an hour early and want to sneak away for a quick bite to eat. Before the others arrive, get your game in. /// If 3- The 9-hour brain-training session If burner games were a meal, they'd be a Texas-style barbecue. a medium-sized butter-coated steak or a deep-fried candy bar A single scoop of fruit sorbet, a side salad, or a handful of pretzels are more like filler games. Some people exist solely on the basis of fillers. Both are consumed by gamers (those who use terms like "filler"). /// "Gamers" play games in the same way that extreme athletes play sports, so the mega-mega-mega-mega mega-mega-mega-mega-mega-mega A jock might dismiss a Sunday bike ride along the water's edge as "fluff," but that doesn't diminish the pleasure (and even exercise value) it provides to the average person. To put it another way, don't be fooled by Gamers' slang.

(I've played with plastic chips, but my friend claims to have a copy with cardboard chips, which I don't want.) ?

The game is available in two versions. Poker-style chips are used in the original (as shown in the photos). For a board game, this is a very nice, high-quality product with a substantial weight. Then there was the "Golden Geek 2014" Game of the Year edition. Plastic and cardboard chips are used to make these. Look for the "Golden Geek" award logo in the bottom left corner of the front of the box to tell the difference between editions. If you have the original, don't throw it away.

What age group are you in?

The game is recommended for players aged ten and up, according to the box. In my opinion, the age of ten is appropriate for this game, but only if the ten-year-old already knows how to play chess. That is, regardless of the player's age, it is best if the player is capable of planning ahead. If that's the case, the game is appropriate for players aged 10 and up.

What is the maximum number of players that can participate?

While the game is designed for four players, we've played it with five on several occasions. You will, on occasion, run out of coins. However, we like what it adds to the game (even if it takes longer or you can only gain 2 instead of 3). It presents a new challenge because it is based on "luck of the draw." Because a player can only have ten coins in their hand at a time, the coins become available after a few turns. To be honest, I prefer playing with five people to playing with four. This is a fantastic and addicting game.

Is the problem with the quality fixed? I wished I hadn't clicked the purchase button after reading all of the negative reviews about the game's quality deterioration, but I decided to take a chance anyway
5/5

With bated breath, I opened the box to discover that my components appeared to be in good condition. great! The chips are substantial, the gem stickers are all present and have a lovely iridescence, and the cards are smooth. I'm not sure if I got a lucky break and got an older game before they cut the quality, or if the company has returned to using higher-quality components, but I'm glad I took the chance! If you decide to take a chance, there are three things to look out for: (1) 'Space Cowboys' is written on the bottom side of my box, not on the front cover as shown in the product image. (2) There's a promotional pamphlet inside with the words 'Space Cowboys 2017,' and (3) the rulebook says it was made in France. I'm hoping that others will be able to obtain a high-resolution version as well!.

This game is one of my favorites, but the copy I got was shoddy
3/5

I enjoy this game, but the package I received was of poor quality. The cards were filthy and gritty, not slick like a brand-new deck. The tokens were discolored and extremely cheap. They appeared to have been sitting in the sun for weeks. They also appeared to have fallen into the toilet and been retrieved and packaged together with the gunk still on the edges. Some of the tokens came without any stickers at all. br>br>And to think I paid $40 for such a shoddy product.

Our Staff's Favorite Game in the Rotation! Splendor was recommended to us by a family member who is a board game aficionado
5/5

We had so much fun playing it with him that we went out and bought a copy for ourselves. I'd say we've refined our board gaming preferences, because thanks to this friend, we've played a LOT of games, and Splendor has long been one of our favorites. br>br>On a Sunday afternoon, my husband and I will break out Splendor for a best 2 out of 3 game. For family game night, we'll pull it out and play it with our two kids. (We don't get it as often as the kids do. ) They are twelve and eight years old respectively. ) My sister ended up buying a copy for her family after we played it with extended family over the holidays. My strategic and competitive brother-in-law-in-law in-law in-law Law can have fun plotting and trying to figure out what everyone else is up to, while I get to have fun doing what I want. sister-in-law-in-law-in-law-in-law-in-law The same game can be enjoyed by law as well, and there is still a chance of winning. With two, three, or four players, the replayability is high. The pieces are of good quality, and despite being the most popular game in our rotation for several years, ours are still in good shape. On a long business trip, a friend of ours brought it with him. When you take everything out of the box and place it in a baggy, it's fairly compact. Another thing I like about it is that no one has ever left with a bad taste in their mouth, which can happen in some of our other games where players make verbal agreements or even work as a team. br>br>You can think about each turn as much or as little as you want, but in the end, you must choose between three options: Purchasing a card, reserving a card, or taking chips are all options available. It is therefore simple for a new player to pick up the game. Last but not least, I'd like to point out how well-balanced it is. It's a numbers game in which the decisions you make early on have a significant impact on the rest of the game. There isn't a single card that isn't over-the-top. powered, I've seen a variety of strategies come out on top. It's a fantastic game that I highly recommend!.

It's a good game, but the new printing is of terrible quality
3/5

The game itself is enjoyable, and if you are interested, you should purchase it. HOWEVER. Much of the material quality has deteriorated in the newer printings (which I received and which others will undoubtedly receive in the future). The insert (which was never needed in the first place) is made of crinkly, low-quality plastic, the printing isn't as crisp, and (most notably), the previously lauded high-quality poker-style card is missing. Style Gems chips are not made of flimsy, cheap plastic that flashes, fades, and has inconsistent color, and they are extremely light. The newer printings scream "cheap, lowest quality possible" on every level. Sure, the gameplay is the same, but there are a lot of other good games in the same price range that aren't crappy quality. Definitely not worth more than $20. br>br>.

From the beginning, I've been a fan of this game
5/5

I was looking for a few new games to play with the family. I'd always seen this game rated highly, so I purchased it as part of a bundle. I'll admit that I didn't read the instructions before getting started and instead watched a bunch of YouTube videos. Playing this game is a lot of fun. My wife and I have enjoyed it since the beginning and have played it with our two young children, ages 9 and 10, who have both mastered it and, unfortunately, have beaten the parents to death. Over the course of about ten games, my wife has won once and I have been shut out. It's a testament to the game that I still enjoy it despite the fact that I have yet to win. My youngest has won several times, which makes me wonder why, despite all of my life experience, I still can't win. Perhaps it's better to be young and keep strategy simple. The game is of excellent quality and is simple to learn. One thing that was a little clumsy was that in the first few games, everyone was hoarding jewels, which made the game very slow, but we soon realized that this was not the best strategy and that there were many other ways to move the game forward. br>br>Game quickly shooting to the top of the family favorites.
