Questions & Answers
The set includes four of each letter (two of which are colorful red, blue, green, or yellow, and the other two of which are more simplistic outlines of the letter), allowing you to spell Elliot. I double-checked my blocks to ensure that it was possible; Just a heads up, all of the letters that spell Elliot are either Red or Blue, so if you were hoping for more color variation, this set will disappoint you. I bought this set for a maternity shoot and it turned out great, but I was hoping to use these blocks as a toy for my soon-to-be-born son and was disappointed by how sharp the corners were. In addition, the blocks turned out to be smaller than I anticipated. I hope this has been of assistance:
They're made of wood, but not the kind that was used in the past. They are a softer wood that weighs 50% less than other woods.
Because there aren't enough "A" blocks, you wouldn't be able to spell both of them at the same time. Red, green, blue, and orange are the only colors available for the blocks. Green j, red a, orange ckso, and green n make up the majority of the alphabet in Jackson. Alexandra's colors are mostly red and blue, with two greens thrown in for good measure. I had previously purchased a Melissa set. Around 5 years ago, Doug made alphabet blocks. The quality was excellent, and we were able to get a lot of use out of them. We did, however, lose a block here and there over the years. I wanted to get a set for my youngest, who is just learning the alphabet. br>This set is a complete waste of time. The wood is of poor quality and is light in weight. Right out of the package, the paint is chipped. Splinters are protruding from the unfinished wood. Some of the blocks have cracks in them. I'm extremely dissatisfied with the quality and will not purchase from Melissa and Doug again.
All Melissa and Doug products, I assumed, were baby-safe and didn't require constant supervision. My bad. Today, my 10-month-old son choked on a piece of this block, so all of the blocks were thrown away. He's fine; he didn't choke or feel unable to breathe as a result of it. He began coughing, as if something in his throat was bothering him. Then he swallowed whatever it was and began crying, looking startled. When I removed the block, I noticed that there were some missing paint and wood. I'm sure I'm not a bad mother, but I didn't anticipate these blocks being so delicate; it's entirely my fault, and I won't make the same mistake with any other baby toy. I'm just relieved that he's all right.
These blocks were something I really wanted to enjoy. I'm always on the lookout for non-battery toys for my son, and these fit the bill; they're also much smaller than I expected. But I didn't bother to look up the dimensions ahead of time, and the lack of quality control is what really bothers me. It's possible that the set I got is older, but whatever they used to color the blocks is peeling off of a few of them. There are also a few places where the wood has splintered and protrudes. The photographs are from a new set that we recently acquired. They don't appear to be brand new and appear to have been used in a battle. br> I had to take them away from my baby because I was afraid she would eat the sticker or paint they used, or the small wood pieces that splintered off. They're adorable, but they're inconvenient for a baby who wants to eat everything. I'd hold off on playing with them until the baby is a lot older.
These blocks are, to put it mildly, pitiful. They're a little on the small side, which would be fine if they were of good quality, but they're not. Splinters protrude from the edges, the paint is chipped, and some of the images aren't completely stamped. This is a straight-out-of-the-box evaluation. Before giving them to our toddler, my husband and I checked them out, and we're glad we did. We considered donating them as part of our Christmas gift box to a local children's home, but I believe that would be inappropriate. So, in a nutshell, I would not give these away.
These are some of the worst blocks I've ever come across. Melissa and Doug have both let me down. They don't seem to have been given any thought at all. The way the blocks are labeled makes no sense, they're too small, and the print isn't very good. It was a huge letdown. Traditional, old-fashioned blocks were exactly what I was looking for. These, on the other hand, are far from being the case. We were able to find some that were just right at Walmart. Amazon, I'm sure, has some nice ones. However, please do not squander your cash on these. I assumed that because they are Melissa and Doug, they would be of good quality. Make sure you don't repeat that error.
These blocks are EXACTLY what you're looking for. To be honest, if I had to rate it, I'd give it a 2 out of 5. 5 stars. What I like about these blocks is: br>br>
1. 2. vibrantbr>br>br>br>br>br crafted from woodbr>br>br>br>br>br>b long lastingbr>br>br>br>br>br They're a good size, neither too big nor too small (though I wouldn't mind if they were a little bigger)br>5. comes with a bag in which the blocks can be storedbr>6. Letters, numbers, and math symbols are included in these blocksbr>7. The letters and numbers are carved / etched rather than being stickers or drawn on. What I don't like about these blocks: Except for the animals, which are drawn on. br>What I don't like about these blocks:
1. There are so many pictures that are the same! There are four blocks with the same four side characters / letters, for example (I don't need the repetition)br>2. When we got it, some of the painted colors had faded or come off (some of the animals were etched in a brown color that had faded)br>3. The way they designed it is bad (when the block has an A on one side and an N on the other, you'd think the other two sides would be animals related to A or N). NOPE! completely different animals, each beginning with a different letter! )br>br>If these blocks can be improved, I'd like to have one dedicated to each letter of the alphabet. BLOCK 1 would, for example, have upper and lower cases of A on opposite sides, followed by two drawings of animals or fruits that begin with the letter A. br>br>I bought these blocks because they were on sale at the time (it was during Black Friday), but if I had the option, I would not have bought them and instead would have spent my money on better blocks.
Well, age appropriate might not be the best description for who these were sent to. br>My mother-in-law, who is 88 years old, is a huge crafter. For someone whose hands have been crippled by rhumatory arthritis, she's quite good at what she does. br>On Tuesday, my husband spoke with her, and she mentioned that she wanted some one-inch blocks to make a small Christmas tree. My husband, being the thoughtful man that he is, went to Amazon and found the 1" blocks she needed. br>Of course, she called him and expressed her gratitude for the blocks. br>A happy mother is priceless.
While playing with these blocks, we've discovered a variety of ways to interact with our 20-month-old. br>br>It's a lot of fun to stack them up into towers and structures. But what's even better is that the numbers, letters, and pictures on the blocks allow students to get a head start on these concepts. As we play with the blocks, we simply mention the carving, and many of the letters and numbers begin to stick. br>br>We are pleased with the quality of the blocks, and the size is ideal for our young child's hand. br>br>A white bag is included with the set, which closes with a velcro strap. In conclusion, I can easily recommend this to other Amazon shoppers. br>br>In conclusion, I can easily recommend this to other Amazon shoppers. I hope your child enjoys them as much as we do.
