Unfortunately, they don't work because they're too stiff. Most of the pieces peeled away from the stencil before we could use them after we took them out of the package. Then, in order for them to stick to the tiles, they must be perfectly flat on them, which they are not. They're all slightly concave, so they barely stick, and the magnets aren't strong enough to keep them in place. This is simply too frustrating and difficult to use for my 3-year-old twins and 5-year-old son. The covers can be removed with a simple bump of the finger. I liked the concept, but the appeal of magnetic tiles is their ease of use (especially for small children who are hard at work and sensitive to any problems in their environment), which this sadly lacks.
Ours hold up well and don't fall off. My main issue is that all of the buildings and cars shown require uniquely shaped tiles, which are not included in standard Picasso tile sets. Because we already have a lot of Picasso tiles, I just bought these magnets instead of the set that includes both magnets and tiles. After a closer look, I discovered that I'll need small rectangular tiles and a couple of other oddly shaped tiles to construct the buildings and cars shown.
To begin with, the machine did not cut all the way through, so when removing the magnets from the packaging sheet, the paper side of the magnets ripped into several pieces. Also, it appeared to be so cheap that they would use paper on the back side instead of vinyl on the front, allowing the pieces to be multifunctional and not rip! Overall, I was dissatisfied with this gift.
I should have read reviews more carefully because this was not what I had anticipated. There are no tiles included; instead, there are thin magnetic pictures that fit onto tiles that you should already have. My son was very enthusiastic about them, and they do work "okay," but they are extremely thin and would be better suited to older children. My son is almost four years old, and while he enjoys building with blocks, he isn't interested in these.
The items were manufactured on a shoestring budget. Some of the tiles didn't peel off well, and I didn't realize I needed the tiles and extra pieces until it was too late. I am extremely dissatisfied with my purchase.
I really wanted to like these because we adore everything Picasso, but they don't stick to the tiles. We've tried everything we can think of, but they just won't go down.
Any magnatile collection would benefit from having this item in it.
My kids' interest in PicassoTiles was rekindled thanks to this pack. The structures they build now have more detail, inspiring new imaginative play ideas.
