Questions & Answers

What makes this item worth twice as much as Kryptonite?

The price is actually quite comparable to a Kryptonite, depending on which model you purchase for each brand; for example, the Kryptonite New York Lock is rated 9/10 by Kryptonite, while this is rated 15/15 by ABUS. The internal dimension of the Kryptonite New York Lock is 4X8, while ABUS is 4 inches. If you have a thick bike frame, the 25 X 9 size gives you just a little extra room. I prefer the muted colors of ABUS (as opposed to the bright orange or yellow of Kryptonite, which may make it easier to locate your bike).

What is the procedure for placing a keyed alike order?

You can place an order with an Abus dealer who is registered with the company.

I just got the lock, but there is no mounting bracket included. It should be for this amount of cash. Is it just me, or did anyone else receive a bracket?

Yes, it is vexing. I have several of these locks (family), and after the first one, I learned to look for the bundled mount (rarer, but the bundle can be found and does appear to save you $5-$10). When compared to purchasing items separately, this saves you $10.

Is it possible for me to have three of these keyed in the same way?

Request a replacement key from Abus by calling their toll-free number.

This or Kryptonite. br>br>With the strength test (search youtube), the ABUS won over Kryptonite. br>br>With the insurance coverage offer, however, Kryptonite won. BUTbr>br>The Kryptonite insurance policy has a stipulation that renders it nearly useless. br>br>A) You must return the broken/damaged lockbr>B) You must take a photo of the bike locked the same daybr>br>Chances are that if your bike is stolen, the thief will not leave the busted lock. br>br> Then you have to remember to take a current photo every time you lock your bike, so I went with the stronger ABUS lock based on that and the general reviews of the coverage. br>br>Another thing to keep in mind is that br>It's just as good as the mounting bracket (which is sold separately). It can only be mounted on a standard bicycle frame. I have a 2019 Specialized Stumpjumper XL Mountain Bike, and the mounting/holder bracket will not fit around the frame due to the frame's thickness. As a result, I simply keep it in my water-packing bag. br>br>I would have given it five stars if the bracket had worked, as I had to buy it separately.

Excellent security system - Purchase was a disaster
3/5

I'm not sure what's up with Amazon these days, but their quality control is in shambles. 30% or more of my purchases appear to need returning, either because they are more than lightly used, damaged, or just poor quality. This lock had clearly been used and was quite damaged when I received it. Of course, I returned it right away and ended up purchasing one (for full retail, about an extra $75) from a local bike shop that carried Abus but had to order this particular model. I suppose I could have reordered one and hoped for the best, but I couldn't wait any longer. The lock is fantastic in and of itself, and is probably the best U-lock on the market. It's a period lock, but it's unquestionably the best at this weight. This is beyond the reach of any bolt cutter. Of course, thieves in big cities use angle grinders to cut through this, but at the very least, it will take a few minutes and make a lot of noise. I'd give 5 stars for the lock and 1 star for the terrible Amazon experience - I'm sick of getting used and damaged items, or the wrong product from Amazon, so I've started looking for things in physical stores again, and I'd rather pay the premium than have to keep returning things to Amazon or attempting to repair things myself. On- Guard makes excellent locks, as does Kryptonite (though it is thicker). The difference between 14mm and 13mm is significant. and heavier, though a little less expensive), as well as the NY line, which is even tougher but very, very heavy at 16mm. I also have an Abus 9mm hardened steel chain lock that I enjoy using, and I alternate between using the chain and the U-lock. To secure the other wheel, use a cable lock (although cables are easy to cut, it seems unlikely that a thief would do it just for a wheel set, but I suppose on a slow day, they will).

The best bike lock on the market with the most features
5/5

This bike lock appealed to me because it has a number of appealing features (details below). I needed a better way to protect my bike when I went into stores or restaurants. Because I only ride my bike to work, I have no choice but to leave it outside and exposed. This lock provides me with the assurance that my bike will not be stolen while I am away. I've never had a problem with the lock, and the key has never jammed. My bike's paint is well protected by the coating (no scratches!). Although it is quite heavy, it is made of high-quality stretched steel. Because the lock mount is oddly shaped, finding a suitable location for it can be difficult. Instead, I carry the lock in my backpack or satchel. Advantages: br>br>
- steel that has been hardened and stretchedbr>- Locks with two bolts in a square shapebr>- Effortless operation of the lockbr>- Rubber coating for protectionbr>- shackle length in the middlebr>- Two keys are included, one of which has a light attached to it. br> ABUSbr>br>Pros: Replacement keys are easy to come by. br>br>Cons:
- It has a lot of weight to it. br>- The mount can be difficult to use. br>br>Here are some details: It can withstand cutting forces of up to 13 tons, pulling forces of up to 7 tons, and twisting forces of up to 1,300 Nm. It employs a two-step process. a square shackle that has been bolted together. The square-shaped Twisting is avoided by the square shape. This increases both the locking force and the tool resistance.

This lock is fantastic
5/5

I believe the only way to defeat this one is to use a power cutting wheel. It's a bit pricey, but it's a fantastic lock. After replacing two cheaper u-keys, I needed a key that engaged and turned like butter. In two years, the keys were no longer able to turn the locks, indicating that they were bound- up). I've had this lock for a year, in Seattle weather, commuting at least five days a week (all seasons), and it appears to be weatherproof. It's substantial, weighing in at around three pounds. 1/4 lbs. for the 9" and 3-dimensional 3/4 lbs. I have both the shorter 11" and the longer 11" models. However, if you're 250 pounds, it's a different story. , and ride steel frames, it's less than 1% difference when compared to the cheaper, dead, discarded u-shaped u-shaped u-shaped u-shaped u-shaped u-shaped u-shaped u-shaped u-shaped I've had a few different locks. If you're riding carbon and you're thin, I can't imagine you'd want this lock to undo all of the weight savings you've made. The frame mount is not included; it can be purchased separately for about $25. It, too, is excellent; there is no rattling, and it is simple to remove and replace on the mount. Because the lock's square shackle does not twist in the lock like round shackles can, anyone using a power cutting wheel will most likely have to make two cuts. The shackle is stiff and strong enough that a thief would have a hard time bending it with just one cut.

The luxury is well worth the price
5/5

There are two things that this lock is known for: security as well as cost br>br>Security alone does not justify the cost of protecting my $400 bike, which I purchased for myself, not for bike thieves. I am responsible for transporting and operating it. It's small and lightweight, and it locks and unlocks with ease. br>br>What makes me feel is the bike lock. pampered. No, I don't have it with me when I sleep.
