It is not possible to wash the paint. This is a great piece of craft! Having the girls decorate these butterflies (2 and 4) was a lot of fun for them. There is a fair amount of light in the wood- The product is lightweight but very durable (trust me- There have been many times when they were thrown around the house). One of my few complaints is that the magnets are too weak to hold up Two magnets are required to hold even one piece of paper on the fridge without it falling every time I open the door.
