As you can see in the picture, the colors are vivid but it is a magnetic thing, so you won't be able to draw thin lines. This drawing board does look grainy, but I suspect that is the case for any drawing board.

There is no reason to regret it. I am updating In response to my review of this mag board and mention of its failure, the company contacted me and sent me a replacement board with a It was never my intention to request a refund or a Customer service here is far and away the best I've ever experienced. For this reason I have increased my review from 3 stars to 5 stars. I realize it does not lead to a drastic change in their bottom line, but the principle of the matter is just superb customer service. A description of the original review is below This was purchased as a gift for my neice I have a one and a half year The graph paper is fun for her to doodle on, and I enjoy drawing pictures for her. The only thing I didn't realize is that the back has a hollow spot. Basically, the plastics on the back side of the vehicle are open to the interior of the front side. While there are magnets and mechanism inside, the back panel doesn't have the smooth feel that a regular phone would. There is no impact on the function of the program. Although the magnetic panel is partially dislodged, it can be easily slid back into place and still works fine. I would attribute this to my toddler standing on the panel. There is no doubt that the bag is merely a gimmick to add "value" to the purchase. The kid would probably break this cheap unit, so I bought it for the kid rather than myself. It is a good-enough one as it is now, and I'll upgrade to a better one if she continues to like it.
My 14 month old child at the time was on a plane trip and I was looking for novel things to keep him occupied. Before we left, I tried it out with him but he did not show much interest so I didn't take it with us in order to save space in our luggage. I continue to offer it to him, along with crayons, paint, etc. Over the last three months, he's shown a greater interest in it, and will now sit with it for up to a few minutes at a time. It may be a useful tool for other travels in the future, both by car and by plane. My toddler can easily handle it because it is very light weight. As soon as we received this board, we were in love. I have to use velcro to keep the tip of the pen from falling off so my toddler and infant cannot choke on it.

The size is smaller than some, but is still like that of a toddler. The only thing to keep in mind here is that it is too small for your older (2+) toddler, but any kid younger than that is perfect (for first time parents, you will be getting a second one, so this one is best).
