5 months. I purchased a 3-pack of SQUIRE Combination Locking Bolts. It was a great setup for about a year. Up until last week, it had been 5 months. To open and close the latch, it no longer slides from side to side. It isn't a code issue because I haven't changed anything. I tried using an oil spray to loosen it up, but it didn't work. I'm in a lot of pain because I can't get it off the gate post because of the one-handed operation. screws in a certain way I attempted to use a one-word phrase, but it proved to be ineffective. I tried to remove the screws with a screwdriver, but it was ineffective. I'm not a handy person, so I'm dreading the prospect of having to buy tools to drill a hole in the screw head and remove it that way. As a result, I now have an ineffective and useless lock on my gate, which is extremely disappointing. I emailed the company about it in the hopes of receiving a new lock to install underneath it, but have yet to receive a response. Even so, I'm disappointed that I now need to purchase and install a new lock to replace this one. I have Amazon Prime and would like to return it, but I'm unable to do so due to the lock. This would have been an excellent product if it hadn't failed.
As far as security is concerned, it's pretty useless. The bolt is far too short, only going halfway through the job. I'm confident that if you pull on the gate, it will open. I didn't put in a lot of effort, but I'm confident it will work out. I'm not sure why they didn't make the bolt extend to its full length. It might come in handy in some situations where there is no play. Because there are safety screws, I'll have to pry it off now.
Local thugs have been breaking into mailboxes, including those that are locked. By adding the 5-digit security code to my mailbox, I was able to improve its security. It has a digit lock on it. This necessitates an overhang on the front side areas of your box, as well as a strong cast metal box (see photo). Steps: Determine what goes where by measuring and figuring it out. Make a cardboard template of the lock mechanism's end. 3. Drill holes in the door and use carriage bolts and lock nuts to secure the locking mechanism. Close the door and use the key to lock it. Place the cardboard template in the correct location at the lock's bolt end. Place the template there and tape it down. Drill a hole in the box for the lock bolt to fit into by opening the door and drilling through the template. To make it look nicer, cover the hole with an axle/cap nut (but don't epoxy your bolt locked). SO FAR, SO GOOD, this improves the security of the box (hopefully the combination lock will last a long time, but it's too early to tell).
This is a well-made, high-quality item that looks great. It was simple to put together the combination. I used 3/16" carriage bolts instead of the screws provided because it was going on a foam core door.
Security screws are a pain in the neck. This product was just installed the other day. It appears to be a sound investment. Setting the combo number was a breeze. The only problem I have is with the security screws. Make sure it's where you want it to be before you put the screws in because they're difficult to remove once they're in. I'd recommend using regular screws to get it where you want it and then using security screws, or even better, just using torx or other specialty screws.
I bought this to be able to lock the exterior gate while still allowing access to the yard keeper without having to have multiple keys. br>Also, now that the gate is locked, I have legal standing to charge an intruder with trespassing if they enter my back yard.
I purchased this combination lock because of the ten-year warranty, and now I understand why. This thing appears to be well-made, and it's quite heavy for its size; the dead bolt is a little short but extremely rigid. I have yet to install it, but if it fails, I will update my review; however, I do not expect it to fail anytime soon. AFTER INSTALLATION UPDATES: br>br> This is a great combination lock. The combination part is silky smooth and flawless. Mine were installed in a recessed style, and they look great. I'll update if it ever fails, but the way it's built, it looks like it might be a while. For now, it comes highly recommended.
If you have a pair of doors on an outside cabinet, these will not work to lock them. You'll be able to open the doors even if the bolt is locked because it's not long enough. br>br>To get around this 'design challenge,' we're going to put a second slide bolt inside one of the doors. 'br>br>These are large and would be more useful if the 'throw was longer. 'For less money and aggravation, I should have bought a hasp and two padlocks. '.
