THE NEW VERSION IS WORSE THAN THE PREVIOUS VERSION
3/5

I purchased one of these a few years ago and was extremely pleased with it. There was a lot of light in the room. This one is nothing more than a cheap knock-off. off. Energizer, it turns out, has changed its manufacturing process. The glass wasn't frosted in the older, much better version, and there were three light-filled columns. not one- The light was even brighter thanks to a reflector on the back panel. All of these features have been removed from the new version. This is a clear case of "newer isn't always better. " I was extremely dissatisfied with my purchase and returned all four of them.

Lanterns that are older vs
4/5

those that are newer. This is a more recent model of the lantern I purchased in 2013. As a bonus, I now have this one. They aren't the same thing. While this lantern is adequate, it falls short of the previous model. The light is magnified by a frosted lens and a white plate behind the LEDs. Behind the LEDs on the older model, there was a clear lens with a silver reflector plate. This increases the amount of light available. This is an excellent lantern. The first is fantastic.

It is possible to turn it off! To begin, turn off this lantern
5/5

90 of the lanterns I found on Amazon can not be turned off, making them unusable in emergencies where it sits on the shelf for years. It has four D cells, which gives it a high energy density and allows it to last through a storm. The batteries are so simple to replace that the twin locks can be easily opened with a thumbnail. The foldable design saves closet space due to its light weight. I'm overjoyed, and it's a steal. I squandered a lot of time on Amazon looking into other lanterns that ended up lacking key features and were designed solely for CAMPING. Purchase it if it is required.

It will become your "go-to" once you have it
5/5

for all of those small jobs" device This is one of those items that you do not realize you require until you have it. I used to be one of those people who lit up a room with her phone light. This lantern was shown to me by a friend, and I thought it would be useful for times when I needed to light up a room while using both hands to complete a task. I'm finding that I'm using it every other day now. It helped me see how much coverage I was getting when I was painting in my pantry. I've only used it a few times in the last few days. When I was trying to hook up cables on the back of the TV, when I dropped a screw and it rolled under the couch, when I was trying to install an LED outlet plate and needed to see where the contacts were hitting, when I was trying to read a serial number on an appliance sticker (which was too small to read in poor lighting), etc. , etc. , I seem to be getting it all the time. It provides a very bright light on its highest setting, but it also has lower lights for ocular inspection.

Excellent product! I was so pleased with the first one that I went back and purchased another
5/5

It was mostly for power outages that I purchased it. The power goes out because of high winds and other factors. I turned off the lights in the room and changed the setting to High to see if it worked, and it did! I am overjoyed!.

Reviews by Stan the Man: Hurrican Lantern #1 is the best of them all
5/5

I didn't buy this lantern on Amazon, but I have three of them that I bought on sale at Lowe's for about a dollar more than the Amazon price. br>br>As far as I'm concerned, this is THE lantern for hurricane country down here on the Gulf coast, and I guess they sell well because all the hardware stores seem to have a constant supply of them. br>br>They are powered by four D-size batteries, which are extremely safe. To gain access to the battery compartment, turn the lock type fixed in screws to the unlock position with a dime or small screwdriver. br>br>Behind the main twin LED columns, which are extremely bright, is a metal mirror that does a fantastic job of projecting the lantern's light forward if you're out at night. Light will come out of both sides of the tubes if you swing the light "tubes" upward. br>br>This light is identical to a fluorescent lantern that was sold prior to the introduction of LEDs. I had a fluorescent lantern that my father had given me as a Christmas present that I had never opened for some reason, but when the LED lantern was released, I gave the fluorescent one to a neighbor and we compared the output. The LEDs appeared to be as bright, if not slightly brighter, than the 4 D batteries, and will, of course, last longer. br>br>I believe the small amber night light lasts for over a week, and it's great for finding your way to the bathroom in motels. At home, I keep one next to my bed and turn on the night light when I need to use the restroom late at night. When your eyes are adjusted to the dark, it provides enough light. br>br>The only drawback, if you want to call it that, is that the Hi and Low power modes appear to be nearly identical, but if the low power mode extends the battery pack's life, I suppose that's a good thing. Both the high and low settings compare favorably to a camping Coleman butan lantern and a bright Coleman LED camping lantern that I use. Butane lanterns, I believe, are almost extinct due to the fragility of the mantles and the danger of the gas. If you live in a storm-prone area, you should avoid using candles or oil lamps. If you have a fire in your house during a Category 3 hurricane like Ivan, it will burn like an inferno, so LED lights of all kinds should have replaced anything with fire by now. According to what I've heard, they've revolutionized the third world because the battery life is so good. br>br>I would recommend this lantern for any project that requires a lantern or a six-volt light. The only thing it wouldn't be good for is searching with a high-powered beam, but it'll be more than enough for midnight navigations. The light is less glaring than a Coleman camping LED, though I still prefer the Coleman.

These lanterns are absolutely stunning
5/5

These lanterns are absolutely stunning! Over the years, I've collected four of them, and it's my go-to bag. to a light source This lantern has seen me through numerous power outages, including nine days without power following Hurricane Sandy, as well as numerous camping trips. The various settings provide enough flexibility for this lantern to be used in almost any situation. In a tent while camping, the night light setting is useful. When unfolding the light, the brightest setting is ideal for lighting up a campsite, working in a dark space, or lighting up a dark room. I normally use the medium setting with the lantern closed for walking around in the dark outside, and the lantern's battery life is excellent. I always have an extra set of batteries on hand for this light, but I rarely need to replace them. I believe one of my lanterns has been powered by the same set of batteries for over a year. I inspect the batteries for corrosion on a regular basis, but everything appears to be in good working order. I've only had to replace one of the lanterns once, when it was accidentally left behind on a camping trip.
