Yes and no, if cycling to the following mode in a short period of time: yes. If you're on a mode for an extended period of time, no. Red light mode requires a long press, and the device will be in red light mode (no white light in cycle, only steady red and flashing red). To return to white light mode, hold down the button for a long time. Low to high flashes are cycled. I usually set it to low (the first setting), use it for a while, and then click to turn it off. If I'm demonstrating a feature, I'll use cycling and long-pressing to toggle between them. a fantastic purchase The style is fantastic.
You must hold the ON/OFF button for 1 minute. The red light mode is activated after 5 seconds. br>br>With sincere appreciation,br> Julia Smithbr> Customer Care Managerbr> Foxelli Outdoor Gear

This was purchased after reading a lot of positive feedback. I'm working on a basement remodel right now, and I'm constantly using a headlight for various tasks. The other one I have is a larger rechargable (with the battery pack at the back of the head), and I was looking for something lighter. br>The first couple of charge-ups have been successful. It was a blast. I got a solid 6 out of 10 for my performance. It used to last 8 hours on low beam (which is all I really need to see), but now that it's on its fourth charge, it only lasts about 3 1/2 hours. br>Too bad I let it sit unused for a few weeks, and now it's past its return date, so I guess I'm stuck with a light that needs to be charged frequently. Fortunately, it comes with a USB cable, so I can charge it, but I wish I didn't need it. So far, so good. br>br>Now, after a week, the thing won't even stay on for an hour. It'll turn off, and I'll be able to turn it back on, but it'll only stay on for another 10 minutes. Charge it overnight, then use it for another hour, and so on. br>I wondered if the batteries were defective (read: not up to snuff). I thought I'd swap them out for some AAA I had on hand, but the thing is glued shut despite having a locking clip (which promptly broke off) and divots on both sides, as well as obvious hinges at the bottom. "No user serviceable parts inside," I guess. br>br>I suppose the moral of the story is that you get what you pay for, but I don't think this was worth it.
I appreciate not having to buy batteries for this headlamp on a regular basis - Simply put, it is less expensive to run. br>br>However, that is also one of the aspects of it that I dislike. I could tell when the batteries in my old lamp were running out because the light became dimmer and dimmer. Not only do you not get a heads up when the battery is about to die with a rechargeable headlamp like this one, which I assume has a lithium ion battery, but there is also no dimming just before it does. All of a sudden, the light goes out. It makes no difference if you're working on the underside of a sink or in a dark attic or crawlspace. If the battery dies, you won't have a light until you have a backup. br>br>However, the solution is as simple as developing a habit of charging the device after a certain number of uses. One thing I did notice is that the battery life does not come close to the advertised 100 hours, but this could be due to temperature or another factor.
In case Foxelli is interested in making this light a little better for the end user, perhaps there could be an indicator light.
As you can see from my original review (from six months ago), I was pleased with the light (and had given it four stars). I believe it fell off my counter and landed on our wood floors last night, which is what I believe caused the main/white bulb to go out. The headlamp still charges, the casing isn't cracked, and the red LEDs work, but the main bulb has failed, rendering it useless to me. I had hoped it would be able to withstand such a minor impact; Thankfully, this happened at home, rather than while I was camping. I'd be camping in the dark if I didn't have a flashlight. br>br>The multi-function switch is on/off. The tilt mechanism, the function button, and the headband all feel sturdy, and after six months of use, they're still holding up. br>br>It's a very light headlamp, which I like compared to the heavier non-LED models. I used to have rechargeable ones. The charge lasts for a long time. br>br> I've never had it die on me in the middle of a multi-day event. I usually go for a two-hour walk before recharging it, and I usually go for several walks before recharging it. The fact that it's a micro-business is also a plus. Because it's USB rechargeable, I can take it on road trips without needing to bring a separate charger (I just charge it with my phone charger); I'VE SAVED A LOT OF MONEY ON BATTERIES since switching to this rechargeable headlamp (not to mention helping the environment by not using disposable batteries).
Update 1/10/17br>These lights are still working fine; I've been using one for commuting by bike and the other for working on cars in my garage. Fantastic lighting! br>br>*update 9/10/17br>Foxelli customer service contacted me and offered to replace both headlamps at no cost. I've used both of these and recharged them several times, and they're still going strong! br>br>I used to purchase lights from Petzl, Black Diamond, and Princeton Tec. These Foxelli's are just as good, if not better, because they are rechargeable, and they are significantly less expensive. br>br>(old review below)br>br>I own two of these lights. Both were only good for a single charge. They will not charge or turn on again after that. br>br>I have several different models of Foxelli headlamps, all of which have performed admirably. I'm not sure what the problem is with this model.
It has a lot of light, which is obviously important. Given the internal rechargeable battery, it's a little bulkier than you might expect. The main disadvantage is that it uses an out-of-date mini USB charging connector instead of the more modern micro USB that is used by cell phones and other devices. Despite the fact that this is stated clearly in the product listing, which includes a large image of the connector, all micro USB charging cables that you may have on hand for charging your phone will not work with this. You'll need to use one of the mini cables that come with the package.
