We do not have an explanation of how the mounting bracket works. What is the purpose of it? The unit must be mounted to an electrical outlet, correct?

Thanks for visiting. There is no electrical socket to mount this alarm to. There is no plug for this alarm, so it runs on batteries. There are two ways to hang it on the wall either by using a bracket that is attached to the wall by two screws, or by putting it on a table or As an alarm is only designed to survive a 3 foot fall, if it were placed higher than that it may damage the device. If it so happens to be set free on a table or counter, it should not be higher than 3 feet.

What is the life expectancy of Lithium ion batteries? What are the numbers?

Here is what the item is. * Provides a 10-hour service The Lithium battery is SEALED for a period of one year. It is never a good idea to change a battery. 10 years is a long time to own a CO alarm. A second one is bought. You must install it by this date.

When mounting holes are centered, what distance is there between them? The old alarms on the wall were held on by screws. I am trying to use these as screws. ?

On the bracket of this alarm, there are two different screw spacing options 2 6/8th inches or 3 1/8th inches.

Can you use this product in the marine environment?

My guess is that this is not a good idea, as the electronics are not encased

The alarm is mounted on a mounting bracket that is first attached to the wall. The bracket then glides onto the alarm. Activating the alarm is as simple as that. The green light will flash to let you know it is.
