It works well and is easy to install
4/5

I was not aware of compatibility info, so it was a guessing game to buy. The house already had ordinary smoke detectors, but due to recent remodeling, we put hard-wired/connected detectors in the open walls, and wanted CO specific detectors for the kitchen area (gas stove), where a smoke detector is not practical since it is close to the kitchen The day after I was born, I still think of my childhood whenever a restaurant says they make [a recipe] the same way my mom does, yet their smoke detectors never go off. There are a few things to note initially. First, the hardwire plug is the same for first alert's smoke, heat, and CO detectors. However, the mounting bases are different sizes, to prevent accidentally swapping in the wrong sized detector for the correct sized one. In this last part, we learned by putting all the mounting hardware into a toolbag and installing it randomly to see where each unit would be installed. This is a simple mistake to correct, but for safety reasons, it makes sense. The second thing is that there are reviews mentioning First Alert being bought out by, or partnering with, another company, raising the question of compatibility among some models within the product line, which is why people purchase from Amazon in order to return products easily in the event that they need to do so. just about everything worked together. I agree with other reviews that the sticker on CO back is a bit oversized, but disagree that it securely holds the unit into the ceiling mount base, as we found the mounting lugs engaged the mounting ring nicely Perhaps they used the same size circle decal they used for their smoke detectors, but I don't know for sure. I think it was because the stickers were slightly larger than the back of the detector. The hardwired alarms were triggered every few seconds when the wireless alarms were first installed, but unplugging the wireless alarm, removing the battery, letting the system shut down completely, and then plugging in the wireless alarm before installing the battery solved the problem. Those who are on their alarm loops only. The installation process was completed by pressing the test button for a few seconds to reset the capture light. The last false CO trigger I had was in 2012. There haven't been anymore. The only thing that irks me about this product is exactly what I have found in other published marketing for However, they don't explain what units are actually compatible with each other. Instead, they tell you that it can be installed with a certain number of units. It would be strange for a company to boast about how many products can be used while making it hard for a customer to figure out whether or not the various alarm products sold under the First Alert brand are compatible? There is some disagreement about the ability of FA's hardwired alarms to work with others in the product line based on reviews It is my opinion that their website should be updated, at the very least, to give customers peace of mind by being upfront about compatibility rather than leaving them to wonder if the units they decide to purchase will work.

This is a direct replacement for the previous model
5/5

CO alarms are limited in life expectancy, I didn't know. Then I died, and I am sure they do. Although it was powered by a new battery, the device kept beeping as if the battery was dead, so it needed to be replaced. The model I have here is a newer version of one I had installed in my 2002 house. As a direct replacement, I'll be able to keep using the phone for another 15+ years.

In this case it seems like the function of the sticky tape is to compensate for the very poor Despite this, however
3/5

There is some type of very sticky foam tape that protrudes radially from the base of the sensor, as observed in previous reviews The tape prevented me from detaching the sensor from the base until I distorted the base enough to release one end. I removed the excess tape with a razor blade, but then realized the sensor fitted into the base with such an extreme depth tolerance that I had to purchase However, the sensor wants to fall off the base even after this. Based on the picture we can see that the sensors are not engaging because the "tits" don't extend radially far enough to ensure a solid contact. In this case it seems like the function of the sticky tape is to compensate for the very poor The tape, on the other hand, makes the fit less certain. So I will see if the sensor falls out of the base when I mount it on the wall. In the case of a ceiling mount, I would not be purchasing this Similar to what has been mentioned in previous Bottom line the design of the product should be improved!.

Changing out the old carbon monoxide alarm is a good idea
5/5

The old alarm may need to be replaced. It is true that these alarms wear out eventually. Nevertheless, it takes years for this to happen. After replacing the older one, which lasted fourteen years, I installed the new one. I was able to replace the part with one that was an exact match. Base needed to be replaced but I did not have to. could just use the old ceiling base that was connected to the old frame. A simple change can make a big difference. It's time to say goodbye to annoying beeps.

The replacement is a perfect fit for the The last time was five A first alert CO alarm installed 7 years ago was giving me the 5 chirp alarm for unit replacement as it was hardwired (with a backup 9v)
5/5

There is no difference between this alarm and the one installed by the builder last year in terms of the wire plug and bracket. A first step is to turn off the power. bracket in the other direction, and the unit will pop right off. Use a screwdriver to pry the old hardwire plug off the old CO alarm unit if you're lazy. Put it on the new unit and plug it in. The cables should be tucked into the bracket and twisted into place. In order to get it in there, you might have to push and turn very firmly. The power should be turned back on now. The battery film should be removed. You are good for 7 more years once the button is pressed.

The protection has been restored
5/5

In 2004 the builder installed three of these CO5120BN carbon monoxide detectors at the job site, which I replaced with three of these CO5120BNs. I heard a beeping sound from one of the original units every few minutes (5 beeps). I suppose that's not too bad considering that the original unit lasted six years before coming to an end. The fact that all three of my original units were replaced, even though only one had reached its end of life, allows me to rest assured that I have at least 5 years of protection remaining. Replacement was quick and easy and took only a few minutes per A little trick to get the foam installing correctly Trim the foam backing's outer edge with the edge of a razor blade before installing. This is due to the foam backing being larger than the actual unit for some reason.

The foam gasket is oversized, making it difficult to install
3/5

In accordance with the owner's manual, this component has to be replaced every ten years. Dated April 2011, the previous one was created in As a result, it has already begun to beep for its replacement. It's all right. difficult to install as the underside foam gasket is oversized by 3/16" all around, and this makes the locking mechanism difficult to operate. While you can align and lock it in when you are sitting at a kitchen table, when you are on a 10 foot ladder, it is very difficult. A utility blade I got from Olfa was used to trim the gasket at the end. That's not smart design at all!.

It is a good product, but it is not fulfilled
3/5

My usual review policy does not include negatively reviewing products, but when I saw the state of the 5 CO alarms I ordered, I was disappointed. Rather than shipping these fragile items in a bag meant for sweatshirts or jeans, they should be shipped in a box. There were loose parts in the bag and all five boxes were crushed. The mess managed to get a total of 5 CO alarms out of it, but it shouldn't happen like this.
