Questions & Answers
That is an excellent question. On the hot and cold supply lines of the S model, there are service stops that allow you to turn off the water supply to the valve. You'll be able to service the valve without having to shut off the water to the rest of the house.
What's the state of your water supply? The diverter will not stay engaged if the water pressure at the shower valve is too low. If the pressure is fine, a new diverter assembly kit may be required.
Hello Eric, I'd say it's possible. You might be able to reach the diverter tub spout from the bottom port and divert the water to the shower head using the tub spout diverter. Then, to get to the hand shower, use the push button diverter on the valve. My concern is that using the diverter tub spout will cause back pressure on the valve, which KOHLER failed to factor in. You should probably contact KOHLER at 1-888-KOHLER. 800- 456- 4537 to speak with one of their engineers.
Mine fills the tub and then comes out of the shower head when I press the button. For the past six years, it has performed admirably.

This valve is equipped with all of the features you require.
Pros:
1. Shutoff for both hot and cold feeds, allowing the valve to be repaired without shutting down the house's main valve.
2. Two outputs are controlled by a single diverter. br>3. To avoid scalding, set the maximum temperature.
4. Hot and cold lever markings are easily understood (on trim not included). This is something that a lot of valve kits lack.
5. Connections can be screwed on or soldered on.
6. It is large and well constructed. br>br>Cons:
1. Its big. It takes up all three of the spaces available. If you have a 5" gap between walls, study it before purchasing.
2. It's a substantial piece. Soldering copper to the ports takes a long time, and any removable plastic or rubber parts should be removed first. The hot/cold shutoff screws are included in this list.
3. Flow limiting is inconvenient, but it is a feature shared by all valves. br>br>Advice:br>To solder connections, I removed all removable pieces and placed this valve in my vice, because trying to solder to these ports while it is up against a wall board is almost certain to start a fire, and it takes a long time to heat up. Before installing the entire contraption in the wall, I soldered copper pipes to the ports and added as much of the final copper piping as I could. As a result, I didn't have to heat up the valve in the wall, and I was able to quickly solder four standard solder connections in the wall. Each port could have as little as 6 inches of pipe.
The product appears to be of good quality, but a parts bag was missing, preventing the trim kit installation from being completed. I'm not sure if this was due to a Kohler packing error or if the item was returned and resold. The extender adapter (three different ones were supposed to be included) was missing, making it impossible to install the trim kit and shower handle depending on the depth of the valve to the wall surface. br>We had ordered all of the materials to have on hand when our installer needed them, but the time it took to complete the valve trim installation was longer than the valve's return by date. Our installer has gone to several hardware stores in the hopes of finding the part, but has been unsuccessful, and will eventually have to go to a contractor plumbing supply (on our dime for the extra time and part). br>I've learned the following lesson: When something new arrives, always double-check that everything is in a box. This was a costly lesson, as it will significantly increase the final cost of this shower valve/trim kit for our project; however, I gave it two stars because it appears to be of good quality. The lack of parts, as well as the resulting frustration and cost, are the reasons for the 2 star rating instead of the 4 or 5 star rating.
The good news is that this is a massive brass sculpture. br>The stops are brass cartridges with a working mechanism. br>The main cartridge has failed, and the cold water side will not shut off. The plumber flushed and blew out the valve; however, the contractors are on their way, so there will be no stopping. I ordered two replacements just to be safe. This isn't the kind of anxiety I need during this renovation. br>Quality control should be better for this amount of money!.
I was in the final stages of planning the layout of my basement a year ago. As the contractor began framing, he suggested that the planned half bath and laundry room be swapped. The final product is spectacular, particularly the Kohler products that were installed. We were able to squeeze in a large shower with just enough room.
I'll have to replace the cartridge because it's completely useless. The shower only produces hot water. I cleaned the cartridge after removing it from the machine. That gave me a few days of cold water, but it clogged up again after three days, and now I only have hot water. br>Before the 30 day return period expires, it is critical to inspect your cartridge. I had to wait for my tile guys to finish, and as a result, I missed my 30-day return window.
Because the plumber was unable to repair it, it had to be replaced. As a result, this is the second one I've purchased. I believe the problem was due to our hard water.
Kohler valves are made of thick brass and are of excellent quality. Shower valve with a solid one-piece design.
Even when the water is flowing normally, the diverter button consistently disengages while showering. The shower was cut off abruptly, which was a very inconvenient way to start the day. For the remainder of the shower, it usually works fine.
