As a result, my small bathroom refresh has turned into the project from hell, making me want to just get rid of my house completely Among the latest "little annoyances" is that after the new toilet was installed completely, and the contractor had left my home, I saw these massive bolts sticking up, and I find them very distracting. There's no question they fall off all the time. So I went to Amazon, my best friend, to see if I could fix it. The problem is lovely, perfect, and it is solved! It's hard to imagine why you'd buy any other cap for a toilet bolt. This is the only way toilet bolts should ever be protected.
They were so perfect. My old ones needed to be replaced for a variety of reasons. It should not make me so happy when I see toilet bolt caps, but these were amazing. In fact, I had to replace mine because the toilet was leaking at the bottom, the wax ring needed to be replaced, and the old bolts were kinda gross, etc. When I installed the new bolts, I found that they were about an inch longer, and thus, no longer fit the caps. I was upset because I did not have a bolt cutter on me, so my toilet would now have unsightly bolts sticking out of it. After searching for a few seconds on Amazon, I found this product. It screws right onto the bolt, has a great color match to my white toilet, and is easy to install. In the past, I've said it. I love it. It is so freaking perfect. It is also a good price.
Our 1/4" bolts are perfect for this. Despite being smooth and easy to screw down, the 1 thread slipped out a bit It is not safe for us to have bolts that are too long. Here is a comparison between before and after.
Kohler caps fit well, but my long bolts didn't allow them to fit over them. This is what I found next. Because they do not have a base like the Kohler caps, they do not snap into place to cover the long bolts. Although they appear more attractive than exposed screws, they are always falling out of place when the toilet is being cleaned. If you retool this required product with a base so they snap into place, Stinky Johns please. As I touch them on a far too regular basis, they are unable to be screwed or snapped into place. In spite of this, they tend to fall over if touched and will only stay upright if secured. This is not a bad product, but it is also not the perfect solution. Be sure to measure the bolts so you know if they will fit within the threads where they need to be secured.
It's a great idea, but why didn't anyone think of it I had to get a bunch of white caulk over short bolt caps the previous owners attached to my house. The caulk was easy to remove with a razor blade after I got all the caulk off. It is recommended that you check your bolt size before ordering the 1/4 inch for a toilet made by American Standard. A bolt size can be determined by counting the threads per inch (online you can find charts to help you). I am so pleased with the way my master bath looks now that I have these bolt covers.
Due to their threading and screwing on to the bolts holding the toilet in place, the toilet hold downs are easy to install and stay in place unless you want to remove them for cleaning. The covers fit over the washers that I used to install my replacement toilet without any problem since the former used larger washers than usual. In addition, where I had to cut off some bolts to accommodate the covers, I didn't need to do so with the shorter covers. By comparing them with less desirable alternatives, the covers are very well worth the slight price increase.
