Questions & Answers

Is this cartridge compatible with a Delta 1500 faucet and replaces the rp16207 cartridge? Dave, could you please thank me?

If and only if you plan on upgrading/remodeling to a Delta 1700 series faucet/trim, this works well to replace an original Delta RP16207 cartridge. It isn't going to work with the pre-recorded music. Because this cartridge is slightly longer than the original RP16207, it will fit Delta Monitor 1500 series faucets from 2006. Use with your older 1500 series faucets only if you want to avoid drips and leaks.

How do you adjust the Monitor 1700 faucet's hot water limit?

I assembled mine incorrectly the first time I put it back together - I'm reducing the amount of hot water that I use. I returned to the temperature selector and realigned the gears so that it would give me the full range of temperatures.

Is this catridge suitable for a lever handle faucet and does it come with a washer?

Thank you for reaching out to us with your query. This cartridge is for tub/shower faucets from the 1500 or 1700 series. Customer service and Delta parts are both terrible
3/5

Poor instructions, and the hot/cold dial does not fit properly due to the small, 1/8" too long black plastic adapter that the center screw passes through. br>This valve kit was installed, and all of the critical parts fit perfectly and function without leaks; THE SMALL BLACK PLASTIC "TUBE-LIKE" PRODUCT, ON THE OTHER HAND, IS The "shape" part that goes on last when the installation is finished is far too long. The hot/cold dial attaches to this piece. The center screw is then inserted into the threaded valve through this unthreaded black plastic part and tightened before the center cap is snapped back on and the installation is finished. br>THE PROBLEM IS AS FOLLOWS: br>The black plastic piece is about an eighth of an inch too long. The hot/cold dial cannot be pushed flush against the handle body after it is fitted onto it and all remaining parts are reassembled. Between the handle's body and the hot/cold dial, there is a 1/8" gap all around. Even though everything works, I can see how this gap will cause water and soap to collect over time, causing problems with the hot/cold dial turning freely and/or the handle rotation. br>THE THINGS DELTA COULD HAVE DONE TO FIX THIS: br>Delta could have reduced the length of this black plastic part and the center screw by about 1/8". br>I called Delta to see if there was anything I could do about it. As I stood there with the old valve in my hand and the metal stem in my hand, she tried to convince me that I had the wrong part and that Delta had never made a valve with a metal valve neck into which the center screw is screwed. She then told me that everything worked as it should because the valve is the same. She stated that a new trim kit (which includes chrome surround, chrome handle, dial, and other components) is required due to changes Delta made to the way the outer pieces (handle, hot/cold dial) attach, and that Delta no longer manufactures what I require. She gave me a rough estimate of over $225 for a new surround. "You mean to tell me I have to buy this new trim kit when all your engineers had to do to make this work (because the valve is the same) was shorten a small plastic piece and the center screw by 1/8"?" I asked. "Yes, but we can provide you with a discount," she replied. "Thank you, but no thank you," I replied. "The last thing I heard her say was that if I wanted, she'd make a recommendation to Delta's engineers/designers. " It was at this point that I said my goodbyes to her. br>br>It appears that I will have to modify this myself or find a nylon bushing to fill the gap between the hot/cold dial and the handle body. It goes without saying that this shouldn't be the case. It could have been a simple fix, but Delta says that because their kit isn't an exact replacement for my 1993 Monitor fixture, I'll have to spend over $225 on a new surround kit to make everything fit flush! That's insane! Delta, you sure know how to make money! Unfortunately, I have two more showers with the same valve kit and trim in this house. Despite the fact that it cost me a small fortune to replace the in-flight entertainment system, they will be replaced one by one as needed. faucets on the walls Please note that the center screw no longer screws into a like metal center valve stem if you purchase this valve kit. The screw is screwed into the new valve stem, which is made of PLASTIC. It will, in my opinion, not last nearly as long, but isn't this yet another revenue generator for Delta? br>All of you who have Delta's old Monitor shower faucets, best of luck!.

Replacement Delta OEM part – My leak has been stopped
5/5

After shutting off the water, it took less than 15 minutes to replace and cost about $15 less than the local orange big box store, so I figured I could wait two days (for Prime delivery) to fix my faucet that had been leaking slowly for over a year in my 20-year-old home. It's fantastic that you can simply go to the internet and watch a video on how to replace a common/simple part and save money instead of going to the store. A plumber is required to visit for a simple repair! If I have another leak, I'll see if I can just order the replacement springs/rubber 'cup' washers in the future, as that appears to be the source of the leak in this design.

It's almost there, but it's not quite there
3/5

I have two Delta Monitor valves that were installed in 1990 and have separate volume and temperature controls. One has a tub and shower combination, while the other only has a shower. When the volume was reduced, both of them stopped keeping the same temperature. I had hoped to replace the entire trim kit, but alas, my trim cover/escutcheon is just old enough that the screws on the bottom are at 5/7 o'clock instead of 1/7, requiring me to open the wall to replace the valve body/plumbing, as stated by Delta support. As a hack to update it, I'm considering buying a Delta trim kit for the handles and a Danco universal trim kit for the escutcheon plate, but I haven't tried to see if they fit together yet. br>br>According to Delta support, this cartridge was the correct part for my "older 1500 or 1700 tub/shower. " Because I needed to use the adapter pieces that came in the bag, the instructions indicate that mine was 1500. I had no trouble replacing the tub/shower cartridge, though I did notice a small gap between the handle body and the valve body (1st photo), which I didn't mind. The shower was then removed and replaced. only cartridge, and noticed that the old cartridge that came out was in two pieces, indicating that it could be reversed. The hot/cold balance has now been reversed with this new cartridge, which can only be installed in one direction. I can't seem to find a replacement cartridge that is reversible, though I suppose I could try cutting a new notch in the valve body to flip it. Also, on this one, the gap is between the shower handle body and the temperature control handle (2nd pic), which is far more noticeable and clearly looks incorrect. This gap appears to be present in other reviews as well. I'm not sure what the difference between my two valves is that causes this. To close the gap, I suppose I could sand down the plastic stem. Fortunately, I plan to completely renovate the bathroom where the cartridge is reversed and has the unsightly gap in the coming years, so I'll be able to replace the entire valve body at that time. br>br>UPDATE: br>br> On the opposite side of the valve body, I was able to cut a notch with a Demel to allow for reverse installation. Without requiring any plumbing work, the hot/cold reversal was corrected. I'm not sure how common plumbing reversals and the use of my reversible cartridge are, but I hope this comment is useful to someone.

On a vintage model 1700, it worked perfectly
5/5

Not having to replace the entire kit saved me a lot of money! I was skeptical that this would work with my faucet, but it did! After doing some research online, I discovered a document that explains which cartridge version is required. On the Delta website, it appeared that upgrading to the older version required purchasing the entire upgrade kit. That isn't the case at all. This is the only cartridge you'll ever need. The older models have one rectangular notch, while the newer models have two V notches.

There are a variety of position keys included with these
3/5

In the description, nothing is said about this. When buying these cartridges, proceed with caution. This one looks a lot like mine, but it has a single rectangular key on the side to help it fit into the valve body properly. It's identical to the one I have, except it has two triangular shaped keys on the side, and it wouldn't fit into the valve body completely. There's no way to tell from the product description. It didn't fit my valve body, so I had to return it for a fee of $7.
