Questions & Answers

Is this valve sold separately from the O rings and other components, or is it sold as a set?

This cartridge was just replaced the night before. It's a fairly straightforward procedure that's actually quite difficult to execute. br>Here are a few helpful hints: 1) It came with a plastic "nut" on the end of the brass shaft in the box. This is the nut that can be used to twist the old cartridge back and forth to remove it, giving the shaft the appearance of being very short. When you insert the locking pin, it has to come off. br>2) If the cartridge has been in there for a long time, it will most likely be a difficult cartridge to remove. After tearing off the plastic tabs in the process of removing the old one (before identifying the "nut"), I watched a bunch of how-to videos. I decided to see if applying heat to the valve body would help after watching a few videos. I used a low-powered plumber's torch, which worked perfectly. It's possible that even a stick lighter will suffice. Heat the valve body for a few minutes on a low flame, keeping an eye on the surroundings. It isn't necessary for me to be a cherry red color. With a pair of pliers, twist and pull the cartridge while it heats. After a half-hour of no progress, it popped out in about two minutes with the heat. br>3) Once the old one has been removed, insert your finger into the hole and feel around for any remaining parts. Mine left a large piece of plastic behind, which would have seriously hampered the re-use. I wouldn't have been able to install it if I hadn't inserted my finger. I also used a rag to wipe down the inside to remove any metal shavings or dirt that could harm the new cartridge. br>4) This is crucial. In order for cold water to come before hot, the valve must be installed in the proper orientation. Put it in upside down, with the hot water coming first; there should be a H|C imprint on the face of the replacement, on the plastic tab. This has to be near the top of the list. If you can't find it, look for the black plastic valves on the cartridge's side. Each one will be pierced by a hole. One will be closer to the front, while the other will be farther away. The HOT side, which should be on the left, is the one at the back. br>5) Lube the O-ring once you've determined the correct orientation. With the packet that comes with it, you'll be able to make your own rings If you don't want to replace it in a few years, don't use petroleum (Vaseline) jelly. br>6a) Gently press the new part into place with the H|C tab on top and re-install the old part. Place the lock pin in place. Check for leaks by turning on the water. br>6b) Because the valve shaft can rotate indefinitely, don't be alarmed if the water turns on and off as you turn it. Find the position where the handle is at 6 o'clock and shuts off all water. br>7) It's also crucial to reassemble the plastic "gears." It took a few tries and errors to figure out how to do this. These are the temperature limiters, which allow you to set the maximum temperature. When both tabs are lined up, you get maximum heat at 9 p.m. Move the outer ring CLOCKWISE and the rotation will come to a halt before reaching its maximum speed (good for scald protection with children). To make sure the shaft is positioned correctly, place the metal backing ring/handle on the shaft and turn it to off, straight down. Otherwise, you might end up with off at the top 12 o'clock position - The handle can only be installed in one direction. After that, remove the metal ring/handle and replace it with the face plate and trim tube. On the top of both, there should be a notch that aligns with the valve. Then, with the teeth facing out and the tab aligned to the trim tube, mount the large plastic "gear" limiter on the shaft. Install the smaller plastic gear so that its tab perfectly aligns with the tab and slot and fits into it. At 9 o'clock, this setup will provide you with the most hot water. You can reduce the maximum temperature by turning it clockwise. I recommend that you turn on the faucet and check the temperature. When testing, make sure the plastic limiters and metal ring are on, and the metal tab on the back is positioned somewhere between the outside and inside limiters within the larger gap created by them. br>Before you put the screw in and install the handle, make sure you've done the following:br>Inserted the lock pinbr>Set the shaft to the off position that allows the handle to point down (6 o'clock)br>Installed the large, then small temp limitersbr>Install the metal in the proper orientation, then installed the shaft screwbr>Install the handle properly on the shaft and tighten the allen lock screwbr>Install br>Here's another suggestion: br>If you want to keep the exact temperature settings you had before, wrap some tape around the plastic limiters to keep them in place. br>As you remove items, take pictures.br>At each step, test fit and try on.

I'm having a problem with the hot water flow being very low, which I believe is due to a pressure issue; can anyone tell me the working psi for these?

The majority are standard for city pressure, which is over 100 psi (I'm not sure why). Usually, the cartridge's seal is faulty.

Is this a genuine Moen cartridge or a counterfeit?

Oh yes it is an oem moem part! at least that is what I got, in fact I had ordered a cheap knock off, (though not cheap in price) and it le

Is it possible to use the Moen 1222 as a replacement for the molding number 111619 on the cartridge shell?

You must use the same model of cartridge to replace it. To work properly and without leaks, a cartridge must be perfectly fitted.

Why buy a replacement when the original is guaranteed for life? I'm not sure what I was thinking when I said that
5/5

"Buy it for looks, buy it for life" isn't just a slogan; Moen faucets come with a lifetime warranty; all you have to do is call and they'll send you a replacement. When I had a question about how to remove the old one, they sent me a free cartridge and handle for my Moen shower.

If you watch the instructional video and follow the steps, you can do it yourself
5/5

The plumber wanted $390 plus tax to replace the leaking Moen valve. That provided the impetus I required to complete the task on my own. You're ready to go after watching the video. I had no prior plumbing experience and completed the job in about 20 minutes using common household tools. br>Amazon will try to sell you silicone lubricant/sealant at a higher price. Don't buy it because the part COMES WITH IT. The Core Valve Puller, on the other hand, could mean the difference between finishing the job in 20 minutes or having to wait two days (or making a trip to the hardware store). Don't open it until you've paid for it. Using the pliers and the plastic piece that came with the valve, try to pull the valve out. Simply return the puller if it works. I hope this has been of assistance.

What you'll need: Purchase a brand-name product
5/5

br>1) Moen faucet cartridge that is genuine. Others claim that generic brands cause issues, and I believe them. br>2) A cartridge puller is a device that is used to remove cartridges from a machine. If the cartridge does not need to be replaced in the first place, you can get by without one. 3) Retaining clip for cartridges. You're not getting your original back if you leave it inside the wall. Keep an extra on hand. br>4) Replace the faucet handle. If the cartridge fails, the shower handle will most likely fail as well. It's due to chlorine's effect. br>The valve is a brass tube with long, offset slots for water admission. My old cartridge's rubber gasket had come loose and had become partially lodged in one of the slots. I could have removed the cartridge with the old channel lock pliers, but there's a good chance the valve and half of my house's pipes would have come out as well. A push-button mechanism is used in the cartridge puller. Safe valve removal is made possible by a pull mechanism. My advice is to spend the money on the four items listed above, or be prepared to hire a plumber if something breaks or is lost.

It's a waste of money to buy this overpriced garbage
3/5

Every three months, these become stale. It's a ridiculously high price for such a basic item after 5 years. If at all possible, avoid installing a Moen fixture in your shower.

The First One Is Faulty
3/5

Anyone who has ever changed a shower cartridge knows how annoying it can be. When I first got the cartridge, this happened to me. The included piece to break the old one loose made removing the cartridge much easier. Despite the fact that it was a pain in the neck. I reassembled everything after installing the new cartridge. It began to leak almost instantly. br>Thinking I'd made a mistake, I disassembled it and reassembled it twice more. The cartridge is still leaking or is defective. br>Now I have to turn on the water in the house and place a bucket under the shower faucet to catch the drips until an Amazon replacement arrives. br>The new one worked. Thank goodness for Amazon's speedy replacement service. br>Moen provided excellent customer service. existent. Don't bother calling Moen because after waiting on hold for half an hour, they offered to call me back at a specific time, which they never did.

It had to be FIXED to fit
3/5

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr It wasn't going to work. It took a while to sand down the retention clip, the bottom of the cartridge, and a little off the bottom where the clip rests with the help of a dremel. I started with the low-cost replacement cartridge parts, but they didn't fit right away. But, no matter how much lube was used, getting the washers into the cartridge tube without them ripping was a nightmare. As a result, I'm annoyed at myself for wasting so much time. I had the puller, which came in handy, so this should have been a quick replacement. Because of the misfits, this was not an easy installation. I put in two of them. This does not sit well with me. However, there are no drips now, which is a welcome relief. We'll have to wait and see how long this lasts. If it drips within a year, I'll post an update.

Replacement from the factory
5/5

This is an excellent substitute. It only took 10 minutes if you have the right tools and read the directions first, and make sure to turn off the water supply first! That should be common sense, but I don't make assumptions about other people's common sense levels! Invest a little more and get the genuine Moen product instead of a "look alike" from another manufacturer. The extra cost is justified because these cartridges last a long time. I bought two of these. One to replace the current/old cartridge, and one to keep in my "plumbing supply drawer" in case one of my other Moen faucets requires a cartridge replacement. These were delivered to me within 24 hours (prime) from Amazon, and the prices are significantly lower than the local "home supply" stores. Thank you so much, Amazon!.
