Questions & Answers

Can anyone tell me if this saw has been used on What is the power of this tool?

My answer would be no, as this saw is designed for small flat pieces of When cutting out pinewood derby cars, a nice band saw would be the best tool.

Is this tool capable of cutting hardwood up to how thick it is?

Probably the thickest wood that I've ever cut was an inch and a quarter hardwood and I had no problem, I'm sure you could get it even thicker if you took your time and didn't push it really hard. Thank you! I hope this helps!

16 gauge brass can be cut with it?

The blades I have are made for cutting metal, even though I have never cut metal with mine. For cutting metal on an electric scroll saw, Pegas and Flying Dutchman both produce quality blades.

Can you tell me if this saw comes with a ?

If you need a stand for the saw, check out harbor freight - I purchased a stand and a light set there for about $75. It works perfectly, but I did need to mount it to a 2x12 board.

I have never owned a better scroll saw! Fret work is a big part of what I do
5/5

The blade is taken out so that it can pass through a hole, and then re-inserted A fair amount of effort has always been involved in attaching it. I had no idea what I was missing until I bought my DW788! There is only one thing I need to do, and that is loosen the tension lever. I pass the blade through a small hole in my workpiece, after which I quickly roll it back into place at the bottom. A turn of the thumb screw and a slide of the tension lever back to the setting I had set it to get me back in the cutting mode! You're the best! In addition, I like the fact that the area beneath the table is completely open and not boxed in, which makes it easier to clean. With the help of my shop vac hose and a tee, I ran one of the sides to the top and the other to the bottom of the platform. I have made my saw almost 100% dust free by using some pvc insert fittings, hose clamps, and zip ties! It's super important to me, especially since I often cut metal and wood and the powdery dust I create can cover Moreover, it poses a threat to human health. My dust collection setup is shown in the following photos.

It's not a good idea to buy one

This is not one of my Dewalt tools, but I have several decent ones. In this case, I paid a premium price and expected a premium product. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to expectations. well-crafted piece of cast iron, but the blade does not sit perfectly in the hole when the top is installed. There is no need to bend the blade, otherwise, it will cut through There seems to be no way to adjust it. Not only are the cuts not straight, but they are also not precise. Since the blade of my blade is angled slightly from parallel with the work surface, my puzzle pieces will only fit one way. There is no need to use the material hold down arm (you can adjust the table side to side, but not front to back). You can't tighten it no matter how hard you try. You will also notice that if you set the speed above 4, the machine will vibrate heavily. A major problem with the manual is its lack of detail. You do not get any steps for troubleshooting or instructions for adjusting anything (probably because none of the parts can be adjusted). It seems like this Scroll Saw is poorly designed. I have not used one before but I own a lot of tools and the design It is not easy to manufacture your own zero clearance insert since the table does not come with one. While the arm does lift up, it does not lock in place and does not raise high enough to give you a good view of where the blade will go down into the pilot hole. In order to make a lot of inside cuts with this tool, 3 or 4 hands will be needed. The blades are held in place by screws, which twist Perhaps it would be better to have a parallel clamping force. Having said that, I have returned the tool and plan to replace it with a $120 Wen scroll saw which I cannot imagine will be any more disappointing than the one I just had tucked away Aside from

==========
Update It just arrived. I just got one of these Wen scroll saws for $120. The Dewalt did not come complete with calibrated tools and was only partially assembled. Materials used in the hold down arm make it sturdy and easy to adjust. Despite its complexity, the instruction manual was straightforward and easy to understand. A zero clearance insert should take less than five minutes to create with a quarter inch sheet of Although it may be lighter and smaller than traditional tables, it is not only as stable as a secured one. However, there is one negative, the saw is quieter than the Dewalt. I would argue that even if the Dewalt wasn't 4 times more expensive, the Wen saw is a much better.

This is a great scroll saw
5/5

It has been only a couple weeks since I have started using it, but it has been great so far. The wooden stand I built for it is strong, heavy duty, and very easy to move. I used 4x4s, 2x4s, 3/4" plywood top and 1/2" plywood bottom out of scraps from around the shop they were all left over from other projects. For the stand to absorb vibrations from the saw, it is quite heavy. For the wheels, I bought good lockable wheels at Lowes and used 12 inch drawer slides from another project. My overbuilt construction would probably be enough to land a helicopter on it, but I am a retired engineer so everything has to be overbuilt. This stand from DeWalt does not appeal to me it is too tall and narrow, and looks too heavy and unwieldy. If I am able to sit, I prefer to do so. I place it in front of a big gulp dust collection hood next to it with the blower blowing the dust into the hood so that I capture most of the dust except what is underneath, which I remove with a In terms of dust, I'm most concerned about breathing it in. If I have the air quality meter on, it's usually in the single digits when it's There is a three horsepower Oneida dust collector attached to my vacuum. The only blades it comes with are the cheap ones, so purchase more and better blades. Although I am just a beginner with scrolling, I am getting better quickly with this machine. I use a 4x4 block to hold up the arm when I change blades or do internals, as you can see in the pictures. Perhaps a more expensive saw like Henger is better in the future, but for now this is okay. In theory, I could justify a Henger machine if I had a lot of scrolling to do, but I usually just work for my enjoyment, not to make money. When you are learning, I recommend getting this saw and using spiral blades while you go slowly and stop when you start to go off line. I have found that if I do a little and then stop again, relax, then do a little more and repeat, that gives me Here is a link to a post that may help you.
