Although the product is attractive, the dust collection system is inadequate. It was used to sand down and re-seal a kitchen island. The bag was filled with dust, which blew right through it. When I'm finished, I'll need to wipe down the entire room. br>br>UPDATE: The velcro attachment for the supplied sandpaper is fantastic, but the sanding platen is significantly larger than standard palm sander paper. Furthermore, loading generic sandpaper sheets into the clamp-on machine is extremely difficult. The clearance between the sander body and the clamp on the side away from each clamp lever is extremely tight on the sheet holder. It took almost as long to seat generic paper as it did to sand it. Another star has been taken away.
Just finished two cedar cabins and am now working on a house made of sawmill pine board. They are outperformed by this sander. Excellent product.
This sander is effective, but there are some drawbacks. I've had it for a month and am running out of sandpaper (it only comes with 12 sheets). I'm having trouble finding 1/4-sheet hook and loop sandpaper with six holes. The sander includes a punch for punching holes in the sandpaper, but it is ineffective. I have to use a screwdriver to break them open, and they rip open quickly. I made an effort to avoid using any words that were not in the dictionary. End clamps are angled on hook and loop sheets. It's simple to clamp a section of the sheet, but it's nearly impossible to clamp the entire sheet. As a result, you're left with a sandpaper sheet that's too loose to do much with. With a shopvac, the dust collection system works well, but only if the proper sheets are used. I'm looking for something that I can't seem to find. br>If I could go back in time, I would not have purchased it.
Not a good idea:.
I was blown away by the sander's quality. My Kobalt died, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money because I'm hard on machines, but this is such good quality for such a low price.
The sandpaper and sander both have velcro for added grip, but I didn't use the paper that came with it because it was a higher grit than I expected, but the sander works fine with paper that didn't come with it.
I've been sanding some panels and it's been going well. The velcro pad is one of my favorites. It's simple to switch out sanding pads.
This sander is one of my favorites. I'm getting too old and tired to sand large pieces of furniture by hand any longer.
