I've had the Festool ETSC 125 for about a week, but I've only used it for about 10 hours in that time. Since trying one out at a local woodworking store, I've known I wanted a Festool sander. The Festool is expensive, but I have no regrets about purchasing it (using a large gift certificate also helped with the cost). br>br>Although the bag collects more dust than my old sander, it still requires a dust collection/vacuum system. "However, if you're already using DC, why go cordless?" " Well, having one less cord to worry about is pretty nice. I always manage to snag a cord on the board's corner, under the board, or on the bench/table's corner. To be honest, I was hoping that I would be able to rely on the bag and not require real DC, but it does. br>br>The batteries last 30 minutes, and there are two of them included. Charging a battery takes 30 minutes or less, so there's little downtime (and you'll probably need a break every 30 minutes anyways). You'll notice a 2-percentage-point drop in power. The battery will be depleted in 3 minutes, so expect a battery replacement soon. If you need to switch workpieces to sand or something, changing the battery while you're at it will save you time. and-go. The only drawback to the battery is that you must remember to turn the sander off before replacing it. It's a little surprising to have the sander turn on while you're replacing the battery but not yet ready to sand! It wasn't too bad after the second time. br>br>In terms of sanding quality, it's comparable to any other ROS I've used. I believe that the sandpaper, rather than the sander, is the key to better sanding quality. The ergonomics and significantly reduced vibration are the true winners for the Festool sander. I've been working on a shelf project that requires a lot of sanding. My hands and wrists aren't as tired as they were with previous sanders. You can be sure that all your dental fillings are still there after a marathon sanding session, just like you can count your fingers after a bunch of table sawing! br>br>One thing to keep in mind is that the Festool's hole pattern differs from most, so you may need to buy all new sanding discs. Another option is to create a "punch" for your old discs, aligning the holes with the Festool. I made one in about 30 minutes that works great, but you should budget for new Festool-style tools as well. In the future, compatible sandpaper will be available.
"br>br>I'll be honest with you - This sander is a dream come true for me. I have several Festool sanders, including the corded version of this sander as well as the cordless RTSC sander. In my opinion, this one (along with the others) is a winner. br>br>It has more power and is more usable than the older corded version I have; it's cordless, but it's still capable of getting a lot of work done.
Dust collection with the bag is admirable but 100% One of the reasons I own this is that I only have one outlet on a shared circuit in my shop, so I can only run a certain amount of power at any given time. I have a CNC that runs products from time to time, and the CT36 collects the dust, so I can't run another vac or sander while it's running. The ETSC 125 is a cordless device that can be used anywhere. While the CNC was producing products, I was able to sand for 30 or 45 minutes on one battery. After finishing the CNC, I connected the Vac host to this sander to improve dust collection and continued working. Despite the fact that the ETS EC 125 is a fantastic sander with a lot of power, I still adore this sander and prefer its balance to the ETS EC 125. Some people were upset that Festool didn't use their old batteries in these sanders. I understand your dissatisfaction, but I have to disagree. With the new batteries, these cordless sanders are far more ergonomic than if they tried to cram one of their old batteries into them. The ergonomics would have been completely ruined.
I bought a fess jigsaw a few years ago that is awkward and that I would not buy again, but this sander is fantastic.
Festool is pricey, but if you want the best, Festool is the way to go! Without a vacuum, it collects a lot of dust, is light, and doesn't have a cord to tangle with. Use it to finish sanding lacquer and ensure that there are no swirl marks. The dust bag is simple to empty and clean.
