If you're looking for high-quality, low-cost woodworking tools, this is the place to go This newer version of the Spiral Head is incredible! I was jointing lumber in less than 15 minutes after taking it out of the box because the setup was so simple. The work surface is coated with a thick layer of oil, which must be removed and replaced with a good paste wax, as instructed in the instructions. br>br>As advertised, the cuts are extremely smooth, accurate, and fast; additionally, the machine makes significantly less noise than other jointers/planners I've used, and the dust collector appears to do a good job of removing dust/chips from the bottom, with very few chips thrown from the top. As a result, wearing hearing and eye protection is still a good idea. br>br>Another advantage of this type of jointer is the ability to quickly replace individual blades. Each blade has two sharp edges that can be adjusted using the hex tool that comes with the set. Because I do the majority of my work with thinner lumber, being able to only switch-out the blades is extremely useful. It's a nice touch to take out the dull blades (the ones closest to the fence). br>br>This is a fantastic product for the weekend woodworker or part-time craftsperson. It comes highly recommended!.

For less than $300, you can get a spiral head cutter. I figured it was worth a shot to see what it was like, and I'm glad I did. Despite the fact that the infeed and outfeed tables are only made of aluminum, they do not flex when in use. On maple and purpleheart (both of which are prone to tearing), the cutter head leaves very clean surfaces. out, but the jointer did an excellent job on it). I would recommend only making 1/32" passes at a time, as per the instructions; the motor does not hesitate at that depth, and it did not hesitate on a 1/16" test pass, but I would not cut that deep in real life. The tables were also nearly perfectly level, with only a 32nd or so of an inch needed to raise the back, far corner. (There are numerous videos available that demonstrate how to level the tables. ) The fence is the weakest link in the chain. )br>br>The fence is the weakest link in the chain. While not difficult, getting it square and true to the table does require some effort. Make certain you give it your all. Before each use, square it up on the outfeed and infeed tables and double-check it. That's the only thing I'd like to see changed. This jointer has so far proven to be a good investment. It's a lot quieter than I expected, the wood glides along the beds nicely (I haven't even applied wax yet), and the finish is silky smooth. I've face joined spruce to white oak, and the result is just as nice. I don't have a helix or spiral tooth pattern, but I like how I can just rotate and replace blades instead of sharpening. The fence was nearly 90 degrees when I got it, and all I had to do was adjust a small set screw to make it perfect. br>br>Some disadvantages include the teeth being HSS rather than carbide, which will determine how long they last, and the fact that there are only two sharpened edges as opposed to four on carbide teeth. The dimensions are also 14 inches. 25mm, which can't be replaced by anything other than what Wen has to offer.

If you, like me, don't have the space or funds to devote to a full-time job, This has to be the next best thing to being a full-fledged jointer. I had this set up in less than 20 minutes after unboxing it. I had to adjust the fence several times to get it square, but once it was, I was able to join board after board with ease and without it moving on me. br>br>The spiral cutting head produces a fantastic, unburned appearance. There haven't been any tears in my eyes. if there is any difficulty controlling boards using this method. I was on the fence about getting a jointer for a long time because of its size and cost, but now that I have one, I don't want to be without it. br>br>It's lightweight, easy to store and retrieve when I need it, and it helps me make the most of my garage space. If space isn't an issue, I don't think this little jointer will be able to compete with a full-sized jointer, but for those with limited space and budgets, it will deliver near-professional results; just make sure to keep that fence square before making your cuts. Wen has been impressing me as a good but less expensive brand for years, and this has only strengthened my belief in them.
