Questions & Answers

Is it also a wet vac?

Yes, it is possible to remove the bag and paper filter and replace them with our wet filter.

Is the remote that connects to the hose's end included with this unit?

There is no "remote," but the vaccum works in tandem with the sander, so it's a great unit.

What's the difference between this and the previously mentioned 575267?

Bluetooth technology has been added to the 575267. The ability to turn on and off battery-powered tools without having to walk to the control panel is extremely convenient.

Take it easy on the breathing
5/5

I made it a point to put my respiratory health and safety first when I opened my shop. I bought a good two-stage dust collector with a pleated filter and installed twice as many ceiling-mounted filters as my shop required. Except for the quickest operations, I used a 5 micron particle meter and wore a mask. I was confident that I had covered all of my bases. For a serious amateur, this is especially true. I was so sure of myself that on telework days, I would just go to the shop and work on projects while on conference calls and other things. When I sanded, however, I kept getting dust all over everything, despite the fact that I had my ROS hooked up to my dust collection system and had constructed a (somewhat) efficient downdraft table. I just chalked up the dust to the fact that I was working in a workshop, and dust was bound to happen. br>br>Over time, I began to experience minor respiratory issues, such as irritation and coughing. I went to the doctor, who told me there was nothing wrong with me and that I should just use the mask more diligently. I did, but I didn't wear the mask to work at the shop during the day. My symptoms didn't get any worse, but they also didn't go away. br>br>Festool was the next company I met. I'd been planning on making a series of small tables for a while and finally decided to bite the bullet and get the Domino to help me out. That was going to be the end of it. Festool will no longer be overpriced. Why did I need all of this Festool equipment if I'm just a hobbyist? When I went into Woodcraft to get the Domino, I had the opportunity to try out an RTS400 mated to one of their dust extractors. I was completely taken aback. The sander is not only fun to use, but it also produces almost no dust. br>br>Being the skeptic that I am, I took out my particle meter and placed it about 12 inches away from a walnut apron I was working on, sanding the back of it through the grits. At 2ppm, it was at its highest point. My Dewalt ROS is normally set to 45ppm when connected to my dust collector from across the room. br>br>In terms of the machine itself, the size, as well as the fit and finish, are both excellent. It's extremely well-designed and durable; being able to plug my sander into the DC and have it automatically start up when I turn it on is a fantastic feature that will ensure I never use it without extraction running. I don't know about you, but that happens to me on occasion. br>br>I also anticipate that this piece of equipment will significantly improve the quality of my work. I used to despise sanding projects (who doesn't? ), but not because of the sanding itself, but because of the resulting dust storm. So far, I've noticed that I'm sanding more frequently and thoroughly, which is reflected in the finished product. br>br>If you're a hobbyist, I understand how expensive it can be. I used to be on the "hater" side of the black and green, but only because of the high price barrier to entry for hobbyists; I still resent Festool's high price, but for a slightly different reason - because of the high price barrier to entry for hobbyists. More people would benefit from the amazing engineering built into Festool products, as well as the health and safety benefits they provide, if they were more affordable. br>br>I am very impressed with this dust machine; it is significantly improving my work and health. I'll keep buying Festool products and, no doubt, whine about the price, but there's no substitute for the quality of the tools.

It's pricey, but it's become a necessity
5/5

The initial cost of acquisition, like that of many other Festool products, makes you think about your retirement savings. However, after four months of use, I can confidently state that this is one of the best tool investments I've ever made. The suction is fantastic, and the anti-bacterial properties are fantastic. (The Makita track saw was causing all kinds of static shocks and dust pile-up on the outside of the non-static hose). It's only moderately noisy, thanks to the antistatic Ridgid hose and vacuum that came with it previously. It's like a little garage robot, easy to move around with the hose and with great wheels that just work. The Bluetooth button accessory 202098, which attaches to the hose's end, is an absolute must-have. You just keep the hose handy wherever you're working, and you can turn it on and off without ever having to return to the main unit, thanks to that magic button. I think I've only touched the front panel three or four times in the last four months. I'm serious. I bought the vacuum kit 203409 and upgraded to the 36mm hose, which has better suction than the 27mm hose. I also purchased the 204310 accessory handle kit, which I strongly advise - provides nozzle storage as well as an easier way to park or store the vacuum. It also has a collapsible handle that makes it easy to store in cubby holes. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go with a CT36 or higher model for one main reason: it's more comfortable. They can accept a variety of Festool vacuum accessories, such as the hose boom arm, but the CT Midi I does not, which I find frustrating. If space isn't an issue for you, this little workhorse won't let you down. It's a fantastic vacuum for use in the shop and for woodworking.

This is a very nice piece of equipment
5/5

It was just delivered to me. Well-constructed. The unit is very nice. It does not, however, include a Bluetooth remote control. It costs $45, and it is optional. I was expecting a complete kit for $640, but there were no tools ($100). To attach the cord handle, you'll also need a long narrow torx tool (minor issue). I'll contact you after I've used it. It appeals to my tastes. It's small and light. Years ago, I should have purchased it. br>br>NEXT STEP: br>br>NEXT STEP: br>br>NEXT ST A second Midi is being purchased for a second shop.

The unit is excellent, but the capacity/bag is very limited
3/5

The HEPA filter is an excellent choice; It is, however, very expensive to replace, as is almost everything related to Festool. Furthermore, their bags are pretty small to start with and I find 95% of the debris is directed to only one side of the bag rendering the other half virtually useless half of the There are many other vacuums with as much as or more suction and 5x the debris capacity, but many of them lack the HEPA filter (which can limit suction if not properly maintained and/or changed). Finally, if you don't mind the low level capacity, proprietary hose fittings (which can be difficult to get on and off of whatever you're putting them on), and exorbitant Festool prices, this is a great unit for you.

Expensive, but probably worth it in the right circumstances
4/5

Don't get me wrong: this isn't a cheap purchase. After suffering from several sinus and ear infections as a result of high dust levels in my woodshop and during projects, it became clear that a better fine dust solution was required to offset the cost of the Claratin-X. D I was consuming a large amount of alcohol. There are some HEPA alternatives that are less expensive. They could be just as good as the originals. But I'm not convinced they're any better. This extractor, when paired with the even more ridiculously priced reusable felt bag, does the job I need it to do every time, and I'm not sure you can do better for indoor work. The amount of dust in the air is practically non-existent. I'm breathing more easily, and I'm pleased with the tool's quality and performance.

This is an excellent extractor
4/5

When I was looking for a dust extractor, the Festool name kept popping up, so I decided to spend the money on a good one. This is a good extractor, but I deducted a point for the inadequate manual that came with it. For the money you pay for a high-end product, you should expect a high-end manual with plenty of information. It also mentions a Festool App for updating software from your phone, but I was unable to locate a US version of this app for my i-Phone. Phone. Aside from that, the extractor is well-made and should last a long time.
