What are the chances of these fitting Gates 5/8 heater hose tightly?

The diameter of your hose determines the pressure you'll experience. The diameter of mine is 15/16, so with a pipe in it it expands to around 1 inch. These clamp well and don't leak.

clamps provide constant tension, which is what makes them superior. On the highway, I have had a radiator hose come loose due to a clamp that used worm gears. In addition, they do not provide constant tension, which is crucial as the hoses age and compress under the clamping force.
