It'll be a complete disaster. For heavier cutting, I've been using a different model for years. Model 7812 by Tronex. The other cutters are excellent, but only for 20 grams. as well as below
I only use mine for finer gauge wire and precise close cuts; I'm not sure how well they'd hold up to chain mail cuts.
I wouldn't use it on anything but copper that's dead soft or half hard at most, because brass and bronze have a different tensile hardness than copper, which is what they were designed for. You can try, but they might get dull quickly, and you'll have to check for burs and possibly sand them smooth by hand.
Not sure! Because I make wire wrap jewelry, a jeweler suggested it to me. It's incredibly precise and sharp!

I'll start with gauges 28-32 (filled and sterling) and then move on to gauges 28-32. With these cutters, 22 gauge is possible, but 20 gauge is a possibility. I used to make wire wrapped beaded chain almost every day, and I'd go through cutters every three days. 6 months. That was typical of cutters when I worked at a bead store for four years. I asked a friend who owns a bead store for recommendations, and she suggested these cutters. The price was a little high for me, as I usually only spend $12 on books (due to how quickly I go through expensive ones!). These guys, on the other hand, are AMAZING! Working with that teeny wire, in particular, is difficult because it gets into allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll I even used these cutters on some of my older jewelry, and it was amazing how much smoother the toughest spots came out. IT WAS WELL WORTH IT!.
I had high hopes, but I've already scraped the edge on several occasions. It should not be used for anything larger than a 22 gauge. I'll see what I can do about getting it sharpened. I'll investigate further. Maybe I'm just a knucklehead.
breath- taking - They're the most precise, though; I like that I can get right up to where I want to cut without nicking an adjacent wire, and I like the flush cut. Excellent craftsmanship.
Both the build quality and the results of these flush cutting pliers have wowed me. The Tronex 5223 pliers were purchased to make square, flush cuts to the ends of fine wire, and they perform admirably. Take a look at the image below, which shows the cuts made to 20 and 26 gauge wire. a diagonal cut of copper wire vs. a normal diagonal cut I wasn't sure which handle size I needed because my hands were a little bigger. I went with the 5" model because I thought the smaller grips would allow me to have more precise control, and I was right. When it comes to the stop screw, there are a few things to keep in mind. Because the pliers didn't come with this screw properly set, I devised my own method, which is outlined below. My goal was to set the stop screw so that when I applied firm hand pressure, the tips *just approached contact*. The fine wire can be cut without damaging the plier tips in this manner. I did this by sandwiching heavy-duty aluminum foil between the cutting tips and setting the screw so that the very tips of the cutting tips just begin to bite into the (0. Metal (016 mm).
I do a lot of wire wraps with precious metals and gemstones, which necessitates clean cuts in precise spots, so we'll see how they do with 28ga platinum wire. The small handles were also a good fit for my palm.
This is the best, most powerful, and effective flush cutter I've ever used. Period. If you use this tool frequently, it will be well worth the money, and you will take special care of it, rather than tossing it in with other tools as is common practice.
They'll last a lifetime if you treat them well.
I'm not sure how I survived without them! When I finish jewelry, I use them to make flush cuts of Beadalon wire. The cutters are the perfect size for getting between a variety of beads (without damaging smaller beads, as I've done with larger snips), and they fit comfortably in my hand.
